Stellaris is crashing my computer at random intervals. FIXED: OVERHEATING PROBLEM
I love this game, I really do. But the only thing that's keeping me from enjoying it fully is the fact that at random times (Sometimes I play fine for 4 hours straight, others it's every 30 minutes this happens) my game will freeze for about 2 seconds, the audio will stutter and make a NNNNGNNNNNGNGNGNNG sound. And then my computer will shut off. This happens in both multiplayer and singleplayer. All of my system specs far exceed the requirements and I can play games like Planetside 2 at a solid 60 with no stutter. The game plays fine and doesn't have any FPS lag until all of a sudden it freezes and my computer dies. Any ideas?

I would double check your video drivers. If they are all up to date, then check the windows Event Viewer for any "Warning" or "Error" logs to narrow things down.

How would I get to my windows event viewer? I'm not able to find it.

Go to your search bar (assuming you are on Windows 10) and type reliability.

Well the only error I had besides the "Windows was unexpectedly shut down" (Which I did since it was frozen) is
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80246007: Microsoft .Net Native Framework Package 1.3. The next day is when the crashes started. How would I restart the update process and make it work this time? Sorry, I'm not that savvy with this sort of stuff lol.

Bump.

Seems Microsoft may have broken something for you.

In my reliability monitor there is also a error that says that NvStreamNetworkService.exe stopped working after my most recent crash.

Well, how would I fix it? Stellaris is the only game that does this.
I was also able to install the microsoft update, but it still crashes so that wasn't it.

This sounds more like hardware issues to me..

Clean out your computer of dust and check your power supply unit. These are 2 common causes of complete system shutdown's.

Stellaris is the only game triggering this though, I play much more hardware intensive games than Stellaris with no crashes.

Let's get something straight. A game or application cannot crash your computer. It can however trigger an underlying issue in your drivers or .NET installations.

You pointed out yourself that there were logs pointing towards problems with both. And as far as why Stellaris is the only game that triggers this... well any game can, and Stellaris isn't exactly a non-hardware intensive game... not sure where you got that from.

Uh, have you tried updating or repairing .Net Framework?

It's not a hardware issue.

It could definitely be just that though.

And again. Applications don't just crash computers... the APIs they depend on do.
