Where are custom races stored?
Not sure what else to add.

Hey mate, this comes a bit late but I figured I'd let you know to benefit anyone else that may google this since I did the same and can't find it anywhere. You find your custom races at:
"C:\Users\<User>\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris" There is a .txt file there called "user_empire_designs.txt" that contains all your saved races. Hope this helps some folks.

Thanks for the info. I built a new PC and didn't want to re-create my 20+ custom races from scratch. (It's too bad the game doesn't let you save custom races to the cloud like it does with saved games.)

I really can't believe custom races aren't saved to the cloud. The data required must be miniscule. This game is badly designed from head to toe.

The file with my custom races was only about 18KB. I don't think it would be a problem to have something like that on the cloud.

I don't agree about the bad design comment, but since the ability to design custom races is an important aspect of the game, I would agree that there could be a few improvements. I think it would be helpful if there was a main menu option that was dedicated to managing the custom races. With the current functionality, having to go through the new game setup to manage the custom races makes this functionality feel more like an afterthought rather than the important game aspect it should be.

One of the things I do like about the races file, is that the info is easily shared. My friends and I all created a bunch of races, then we shared our files with each other. A simple copy and paste to put everyone else's races together into one list, and we can now enjoy our friends creations in our games.

This makes me wonder if it would be better to store each race in its own separate file. That way you could just copy and paste the files for the races you want to share. Manually editing the one main file probably isn't that difficult, but it is still one extra step that may be unnecessary.

On a side note, the game currently gives you the option to choose if you want to save your games locally or on the cloud. If they were to implement a cloud save feature for the custom races, I would expect that a similar option would exist for that too.
