"C:\Users\<User>\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris" There is a .txt file there called "user_empire_designs.txt" that contains all your saved races. Hope this helps some folks.
edit: I think they changed their name since this comment
I don't agree about the bad design comment, but since the ability to design custom races is an important aspect of the game, I would agree that there could be a few improvements. I think it would be helpful if there was a main menu option that was dedicated to managing the custom races. With the current functionality, having to go through the new game setup to manage the custom races makes this functionality feel more like an afterthought rather than the important game aspect it should be.
This makes me wonder if it would be better to store each race in its own separate file. That way you could just copy and paste the files for the races you want to share. Manually editing the one main file probably isn't that difficult, but it is still one extra step that may be unnecessary.
On a side note, the game currently gives you the option to choose if you want to save your games locally or on the cloud. If they were to implement a cloud save feature for the custom races, I would expect that a similar option would exist for that too.
Says the guy that put 200+ hours into the game. :D
for linux users on proton instead of native that becomes: /SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/281990/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/
