When you outnumber a Fallen Empire fleet 3 to 1
but your fleets would rather sit idle at tachyon lance range and get wiped out rather than move into plasma range. Top Notch combat model, Paradox.

Throw offensive modules on the ship instead of defensive ones. Otherwise they're going to try and stay at range.

Did they have the aggressive or defensive combat computers? Did your ships have superior speed to the Fallen ships?

Because if your ships are trying to stay out of enemy weapon range, or can't move faster than the enemy ships, your not going to win against an enemy who has a range advantage.

So you ignored the first rule of combat?
numbers alone dont secure victory.
i've been fighting a federation last night. they too outnumbered me i had tech on my side, so we massacred them.

I'm using the offensive modules.

Yup I would love to see the design. I assume Its all missile and defensive modules :)

Then the longer range of the fallen makes sure you die in a horrible way :-)

And you assume wrong.

For the second time I witnessed 4 of my fleets, outpowering a single enemy fleet 5 to 1, just ball up at range and plink 1 or 2 ships at a time....for a year straight. Apparently the thing to do then is retreat 1 or 2 of the fleets, then warp them back in from a different angle and they have no problem charging then.

That's nowhere near enough power to take on a fallen empire fleet. We're talking something like +60K and that's not guaranteed to hold them down for very long.

It can be done if he combines his fleets because Fallen Empire AI is stupid. They have multiple fleets which can be picked off 1 by 1.

I've had my huge fleets of 100k+ do stupid things like not engaging the enemy in combat AT ALL

another issue is that it looks like you are using very little diversity in ship classes.. you need faster ships and probably more diversity in weaponry as well.

faster ships are smaller ships which will just get shredded at range by enemy fleets especially the Fallen fleets. Any enemy corvette or destoyer just goes pop miles from my battleships. The kind of diversity that benefits is different battleship types with different weapons and modules, such as shield dampener, FTL inhibitor and nanobot cloud

Like I said, that was 1 fleet of 5 with a combined power of 60K pre-engagement against a single Fallen Empire fleet strength of 10K. I've wiped out Fallen Empire fleets with half that strength because they'd charge in, but in this instance (and one other instance) they just balled up and refused to move. In only -1- of those 5 fleets did I have -1- ship with a defensive module, a support battleship with nanocloud....so if the entire navy is deciding to go against their aggression modules to hinge on 1 ship, I see a problem here...either way.

I had a similar problem with my fleets taking forever to turn around to fight ships attacking them in the rear. I had warped into the fallen empire ringworld system and almost finished off its stations and defenders when another fleet warps in from behind. My fleet stays in the middle doing nothing for several months and I lose several battleships needlessly because the fleet just stayed there and took it. This seems to be more of a problem with the battleships than the smaller ships. IIRC all my ships had the sentient AI module installed.

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what happened to me.

100 people with sticks will get masacred by 4 people with automatic weapons and plenty of ammo...
