Alien pets bug?
There is a strategic resource called alien pets, they are counted like dark matter and terraforming gases/liquids. I forgot I had 1 of them in my empire and assumed it would still be there later. I just poked around in the area and found the tile with them in a sector, the tile has social tech bonus and these guys. The sector has put a lab onto the tile and it seems the pets are suppressed no matter what building I try, even the zoo the resource allows me to build. Pls tell me this is a bug and will be fixed since the sector manager aint for letting that tile go empty.

Pets are definitely bugged. In my case, I got the resource count up without having the tile, but just by sending a ship that was blocked? It was very weird... then the pet icon disappeared from the tile...
I'd say forget about pets for now

I think you need to leave the tile empty to get the pets. Not sure though.

My reasoning: Any building will suppress anything it does not produce; and there's no building that produces pets, so any building will suppress those. So if you have the building on that tile demolished, the pets should show up again.

By the way, what this pets actually do? Tech description doesn't say anything useful at all
yup. ANY building will suppresses the pet.

Pet buildings add +10 happy to a planet.

they are actually useful if you terraform a colonized core world .... oops (I did dat, heh)

You can build a zoo or trade them.
What I wanna know is why can't I clone these pets and distribute them to all my people so they can be eternally happy and productive members of society?

They killed them, watership down style, they ripped up the trees and filled in the lakes. All that is left is the grim dark scene of a farm next to a slaughter house operated by cold unfeeling robots. Then when those robots get the dangerous AI tech they become rly rly mean and take all their newfound anger out on whatever is left :S

These pets ought to be left intact by research structures as well as some neutral ones. For instance, zoos shouldn't threaten them, and neither should paradise domes. Perhaps food structures as well? In any case, I hope the devs teach the sector AI to respect them!

I think, any science/research building would/should suppress the pet resource. The scientists needed a steady supply of "lab rats". Explains the big society tech bonus on same tile...
As for farms, pets shouldn't be suppressed, but rather act as alternative food source. Yum!
