I uh... How do i build mining stations?
I'm feeling like a major idiot. The tutorial said choose a planet, hit button, easy. I tried it but it didnt work. Do i need to survery the planet, and if i do, how do i know if it has minable resources?

Yes you have to survey first. A little icon with a number will pop up below the planet/moon/asteroid if there is anything there. You also cannot build them outside of your borders.

When you survey a planet, an icon wlil appear below it if it has mineable/reserachable resources. That same icon with the aggregate number will appear in the galaxy view. Colored green, for resources that you're actively mining.

How will i know if it can be mined/what i'll get? Will it tell me if i move the mouse over it?

Super in the bottom right of your interface where you see 4-5 green buttons ... the one closest to the centre - the smaller one .. press it it will go orange and show a "tick"

Thank me later :D

EDIT: Anything in your borders (coloured blob on galaxy map) can be mined or researched by building the appropriate station on the resource.

Colonizing a planet OUTSIDE of that border will extend it or you can build Frontier bases. The tutorial will get to all of this as you complete the various tasks. Situation Log is your friend!

Resources you have already got stations on will show as "green" but you will see how hitting that button I told you about will help with all of this :)

Ah ok, thanks. Sorry, slow moment here. Not used to all this info, even though the games being gentle about piling it on.

Yes.

By surveying it. If it has resources, they will appear as a number under the planet. If they don't, then nothing will happen.

You have to survey celestial bodies. If a planet/star/asteroid is surveyed, icons will appear under it showing all the resources it holds, if any. At that point you select a construction ship and click on "build mining station" in its orders. Then you click on that planet.
A mining station will mine the entirety of the resources present on that planet, so you always get what you see in the icons. And it will cost always 1 energy credit to keep running. So it goes without saying the more resources are concentrated on a single celestial body the more efficient your power-to-resources-mined ratio will be.

When you have a construction ship selected you can see all the resource values. If it's white it's open, if it's green you have a station there already and are collecting it. Same for colony ships, if you select one you can see all the worlds you can colonize.
