How do you get bigger ships?
I'm still stuck with the Corvettes and I've upgraded my space station to level 2 which said I should be able to build larger ships but I don't see any options to build larger ships. Totally confused how this works. Do I need to unlock some research for it that I just don't have yet?

upgradeing it to larger sizes is required it doesnt say lvl 2 though ;) lvl 3 will get you destroyers

Research is required for each ship type besides the starting ones

Yeah you need to research lvl 3 space station to unlock destroyers.

Ahh ok! Thanks guys! I'll keep at it then!

curious about this too.. Just upgraded the spaceport to lvl2 and it said I'd have access to build Destroyers.. But nothing about those in the build options or in the ship Designer..

I'll just assume then that I need to uncover a research tech card first that I learn to be able to build destroyers? Then because I've upgraded my Spaceport it will then be available?

EDIT: oh ok I see!

Yeah the flavor text did say level 2 would allow me to build destroyers. I'll try upgrading to level 3 to see what happens though. Does this mean it's a bug though?

You get the tech for destroyers in research, the spaceport text isn't a bug, it says you can build the Destroyer Ship Yards (might have the name slightly wrong, don't have access to game at the moment, but it's something along those lines), which provides benefits in construction time reduction and price for building Destroyers, but none of that matters if you don't have the Destroyer tech researched. I believe it's the Engineering research section.

well technically the lvl2 spaceport says you get the Corvette assembly yards, not Destroyer Assembly yard (which is true..) but also mentions access to Destroyer class ships.. And no Destroyers are available to build now at lvl2..

So yeah I guess it just enables the ability to build Destroyers, but I still need to get lucky and get the Destroyer Engineering research card and research it up to "Actually" be able to start fielding Destroyers..

Edit: going along this thought-process, I assume that the lvl3 Spaceport upgrade gives access to the Destroyer Assembly Yard Module and likely mentions access to the next tier up of ship-class, whatever that may be..

Ahh ok. That makes sense then. Guess i'm just unlucky and have yet to get the tech to destroyers.

I got lucky finding twice some ancient naval bases and aquired some very nice alien ships out of them.

Yeah I found an old spaceport and got 3 ships from it that were the power equivalent of a third of my standing navy lol... good stuff! Plus I finally got the tech to get destroyers! Once I get that researched up going to start waging war on my weaker neighbors I think.

I think that the Corvette and Destroyer Shipyards are actually MODULES that you add to your shipyard that make it easier/faster to build Corvettes or Destroyers, but you do not need the Modules to build Corvettes or Destroyers. You still have to get the seperate tech that enables Destroyers to be built.
Alpha May 14, 2016 @ 9:18pm
Yeah you have to get up to like level 3+ and 5+ for destroyers and cruisers or something like that.
