Should I "clean" the planets I conquered? (aka genocide)

I am purely asking from a strategical view. My currenty enemy inhabitates ocean worlds, which atm I can not colonize. But, the first war I conquered one of their world, their people were always forming a faction to rebel against me, so I thought, hm better be off with them.

But then, will the planet be reset? Can I re-colonize him despite it being an ocean world, which I do NOT yet have researched? Or is the world then just lost to me, if I "clean" (kill) them all?

OR is there a way to just slowly replace their race with mine?

i think theres a way around losing the world

you force one of your main pops over while you purge the rest

Personally i haven't had much trouble with factions (just throw a high level governor at them for happiness boost)

Later you can use them to colonize ocean worlds. If you manage to pacify them. It is based on species. Your species cannot live on that world. Law of nature.

So if you are already on that route enslave and supress them. I think purging is for replacing

if you do without adding one of your peoples to the planet first you will lose the planet, and have to resettle it latter. but..... if you are over your limit that may not be a totaly bad thing to happen. you do run the risk of them rebelling though, so if you don't want to deal with that issue.. purge away.
if you want to keep the planet but don't want the infidels... remember to move one of you people over before you clean the planet
