Don't get me wrong, I like Stellaris, but the soundtrack is just so awful. Not one memorable song. Just feels like really poorly made ambience. And not of the good kind. Just endless droning.
Do you have appreciation for orchestrated music like those in movies? I've played some space games where the music literally puts me to sleep so I have to turn off that music and play my own selections lol
There are so many games with memorable soundtracks. I didn't even notice much orchestra in the Stellaris soundtrack. I love orchestra music and classical music. The music that came out at start with Crusader Kings 2 was amazing. As was the Songs of Albion DLC. Victoria music was great. EU2 was great. HOI2 was great.
Other non-Paradox games? Rome 1 and Medieval 2 had great music. Shogun 2 was amazing. Civ 1 and 2. Diablo 1 soundtrack is probably the best ever made in history. Diablo 2 was good. Kotor 1 and 2. Starcraft 1. World of Warcraft had and have awful music. Dark Souls had stellar music.
Space games? Ascendancy is a classic and perfect example of how it should be done. Make the music sound strange and alien, haunting. Like Diablo 1 in space. And Ascendancy is a REALLY old game now.

Space Rangers 2 (not the HD version) is another good example. The music there was really engaging and fast paced. Perfect fit for that sort of game.

As for an example of ambience music that is non-intrusive but still works as ambience, I'd say Nexus: The Jupiter Incident did it pretty good.

There are so many to mention, but these we're the ones I remembered right off the top of my head.
Yeah, I got Nova on a whim, but I'm totally glad I did.
Well, even though I disagree I respect your opinion.
I will say that even though I like the soundtrack a lot I still turn off the music sometimes. No matter how much I like music in a game I eventually turn it off. With only a couple of hours worth of tracks and playing the game for a hundred hours or more even great music becomes repetitive. So I listen to something else while I play much of the time. For this game I actually turn the music back on sometimes which is highly unusual for me. Most games I just leave it off after the first week of playing.
Suprised others like it.
