It's not really restrictive, just time consuming in a different manner.
and in the sence that it could happen that the only system with a hyperlane that connects to where you want to go with you science ship has hostiles in it, so you would have to stop exploring to clear the system with a military fleet first.
in general you are correct its not completely restrictive, just a bit more then the other 2 imo, one could ofcorse argue that wormholes are restrictive aswell in a way because you need to build wormhole stations to be able to even access new systems that are not in reach of any existing station.
i guess what i mean is that hyperlanes feel more restrictive in the early game since with warp you can go pretty much anywhere and the first wormhole station has enough reach to keep you busy in the early game
