What kind of Strategy game is Stellaris ?
Kind of hoping the game is not just all in space, can you actually land on planets and have command and conquer style kind of battles with an enemy A.I. ?

From what I have read and seen, all battles are auto-resolved. The focus of this game is more of a grand scale where you focus on empire management, and not on tactical control of battles.

Grand Strategy / 4X.

Meaning you control in depth all the facts of your space empire, such as expansion, diplomacy, war, research and internal politics.

As for combat, you can invade planets, but definitely not like.command and conquer. I'm pretty sure the battles happen without you and you and you will be informed of the results, with possibly limited visuals.

You didn't do much research, did you?

I mean, it's pretty obvious this game has nothing to do with Command & Conquer. :steamfacepalm:

Let me help you.
Developer Diaries[forum.paradoxplaza.com]
Devs' Demo Stream (YouTube playlist)

In short, battles happen like they do in pretty much all Paradox games: the AI takes your army/fleet and auto-resolves it for you. Everything happens in real-time (pausable) where the only thing you can do is call a retreat. Most of the calculations are done behing the screen, meaning you only get to see a (quite pretty) visual representation of what the game calculates is going on. A small battle-window gives you more detailed numbers and stats about what's going on and who's winning.

Go and read the dev diaries and watch a stream or two, though. Everything you want to know is in there.

True words my fellow Paradox Fan.

Thanks for the quick reply Abrexus and Waagenator, it's sad to hear as they have put a lot of work into the characters and game customizations.

Don't think I'll be getting this game as will a lot of others I guess, i'm not interested in playing Politics and Diplomacy, people want Action and Adventure, building bases Conquering planets, Customize everything with a choice of maps, build Huge Armies, Dominate resources, upgrade technologies, Control and Fight for the land, sea, air and space !
where can I find a real time strategy like that ? lol

Hey if there's any Developers working on something like this get in contact as i have a Mountain of great ideas for a game like this and would like to bring back the classic strategy type games with modern graphics.
Supreme Commander FA ?

Ground combat in that sort of detail is not within Stellaris scope.

Besides, I have an ampire to run. I don't really want to be getting down to the level of detail where I'm moving individual units on a topographic planetary map, picking which terrain to fight on, and trying to figure out where I am going to be placing my Infantry, armor, and artillery assets.

That's going to be opening up an entirely new level of detail. And while I'm focusing on that, there are multitudes of other events occurring in my empire that I should probably be paying more attention to.

You seem to be assuming a whole lot of things about what "people want". Seeing how many games Paradox sells, their "niche" audience is actually quite large and I, like many others, were waiting for them to create a game just like Stellaris. And I actually am very glad and thankful that they didn't go the tactical route and stuck to their ways: grand strategy, hands-off battles, deep and complex diplomacy and empire management.

There are many, many, many games out there doing the tactical and ground combat parts just right. Leave this one game to us.

The closest to attempt anything like that would be Imperium Galactica (1 & 2) & Space Empires series, but they didn't do a very good job on the ground combat at the end of the day. When you consider the time scale difference between land combat & space combat also it doesn't make much sense to be doing massive C&C battles for every single planet.

Why don't you buy sins of a solar empire if you want action RTS or Starcraft

StarDrive 2 had a shot at it too, but failed miserably on almost all fronts except ship customization...

I was thinking this same thing... "people want..." I'm people and I do not want Action and Adventure, I actually do want Politics & Diplomacy...

Whats so wrong about politics & diplomacy?
It is way more interesting than the usual standard action control your soldiers battle.
I think its time to finally make more games with a greater AI and good diplomacy System
