Earth in correct place mod.
When I play this game as Human I am a stickler for starting with Earth in it's real place.
Often though it starts with Earth too far out or too close to the center.
Would anyone be interested in making a mod that makes sure that Earth on the galaxy map is in the same place as in real life?

that would probably require a predefinied galaxy, which im pretty sure is actually possible

but is it practical? there are more than 250 billion stars in our Milky Way galaxy. perhaps it could filter out non-useful or uninteresting star systems which might take it down to 25 billion...

I think he means more the relative position of sol, not the actual star count

Yes, as nice as it would be to have a higher system number for the game, I'm practical enough to know that would put a huge strain on a pc.
I am indeed talking about putting Sol in it's proper place, I hope that wouldn't meen using a predefined map though. I'm not a programmer but I imagine you could programe some kind of algorithm to make sure that, in a randonly generated galaxy, it is place the correct distance form the center.

Even when I roll the dice enough times to be satisfied it's never entirly correct.
I've looked it up and earth is about 1/2 to 2/3 from galatic central point, that's NOT along the arm but from the center to the outer circumference that the tips of all arms form.

However earth is not in any of the arms. It's actually in the Orian Spur, a collection of stars between two arms. I'm thinking that, if it's possible for the game to have the L-cluster, then it's possible to make somthing like that and put it and Sol in between two arms.

So we think that we are located in an outer spiral arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. BUT the truth is, that although we have a lot of 'artists impressions' to look at, and some reasonable guessess based on what we can observe from earth. No one actualy knows what our galaxy looks like.

Given that we dont know very much about the shape of our galaxy and our location in it I dont think you realy need a mod. Just re-start any game that places you up against the galactic center (where we definatly are not) and you should be 'Good Enough'.

We know what other galaxy that we can observe look like, and we know what we can see from our position within our galaxy. But the number of stars we need to track to generate an acurate picture of it is literaly 'Astronomical'. We also need to acount for stars that arnt vissible from our current position, and wait 230 million years or so for a full rotation of the galaxy so that we can be sure we havnt missed anything.

Of course maybe we will work out some fantastic physics defying way to overcome the inertia imparted to us by the galaxy and somehow get a probe above it to give us a snapshot within that 230 million years. But I doubt we are smart enough to be honest. I mean we are probably going to be too destracted by cat videos on youtube or somthing.
