those worlds are great as "immigration magnets" to get access to various species (migration treaties) that can later be used as colonists for planets that don't match your main species preferrence.
i haven't had that planet in any of my games, so can't say what kind of weapons/defenses the defenders have. might be worth sacrificing a lone scout ship just to get an idea what stuff they use. if you can refit your ships to counter their weapons/defenses, even a smaller fleet might be able to take them out.
Still learning the particulars of Sellaris. Is the Fallen Empire related to one of the "crisis events"? Or is it it's own thing? And what is this Ring World you speak of...
the gaia world the OP was talking about seems to be a scripted world, though. there's also a scripted system with a ringworld that can appear anywhere in the galaxy (don't think it always appears, i think i found it in about half of my games, though). it's basically an artifical superstructure built by some sort of super advanced precursor civlization. a gigantic ringshaped space station that cover the entire circumference of it's solar orbit.
regardign fallen empires: there can be up to 3 in a galaxy. they aren't directly related to the crisis events. they are their own thing. basically, the remnants of some old empire that was (presumably) much bigger and more active in a distant past. the FE in the game represent the core worlds of those ancient empires that collapsed at some point in a distant past. they are pretty much stagnant. they don't interfere much with the younger civilzations of the current "cycle" (ie. the player and the rival AIs).
the crisis events are basically a game mechanic to spice things up in the later parts of the game. the game will (essentially) throw a powerful adversary at you at some point and you have to survive and fight them off. they don't really play by the same rules as the player or the rival AI's. they pretty much "spawn" lots of stuff out of nowhere and you have to figure out a way to stem that endless tide and prevail.can be fun if they spawn at the right time to make them challenging. if they come early, they can be pretty frustrating, and if they come too late, you can just stomp them with very little effort.
hope that clears things up a bit
So a Dyson Sphere, then? Neat.
So it's an actual thing that is encountered diplomatically as if it were a regular race. Good to know.
Yeah, those are pretty self explanatory. How many are there? I've only seen the Unbidden and the Scourge/Swarm.
Yup, did that. ^_^
