What was their reputation with you if you already knew them?
The update has made the AI more aggressive in general. To me, it sounds like the Fallen Empire were still annoyed at you before, but not enough to actually act against you. With the update, they're now more willing to act.
I've had plenty of encounters with Fallen's and sometimes they immediately get mad and make demands or it can take a while.
For example, I found a Fallen Empire on the other side of the galaxy after about 200 years. They were instantly mad at me because they were Keepers of Knowledge type and I had Jump Drive and Synthetics. I gave them the finger because A: they are too far away to attack me, and B: I am powerful enough to go head to head with them.
Perhaps they should make it that Fallen Empires contact you when you get close to them, rather than actually finding them. Would at least make more sense for the Xenophobic and Spiritualist FEs.
Enter a system with a Holy world, instantly contacted. Enter a system bordering a Xenophobic FE, contacted. It would make sense for these ones I think, as they'd be keeping more of an eye on their borders than others.
Agreed. It would sure make sense for them to "defend" the place they hold as holy instead of allowing anyone to just waltz in and have to remove them afterwards. One would assume that the damage would be done by them. Why allow it to happen in the first place, ffs? That's something that can only be an oversight. Here's hoping they patch it eventually.
