Enviormental adaptation causing chaos.
I got an event that created a new species called the Meta-"Name of original species", but I've found handeling them to be difficult. Despite being above average happy and having a ethics divergence of at least (!) -10 % they are still losing my ethos! How am I supposed to keep these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s in check, and will I have to exterminate them? (Normally I would have purged them immidiately, but they seem to have developed some excellent traits, traits I don't want to lose.)

Update:
After spamming buildings and edicts I managed to make one pop follow my ethos... meanwhile several of my primary species, with a stagering -31% to ethics divergence still decided to make their own path, ditching materialist for xenophobe.

You haven't seen their stats; even with two extra points they have -7 gene points avaliable! (Very strong, strong, very adaptable, rapid breeders.)

That's the odd part, they've existed for over 10 years and they haven't founded a faction once; they've carried out plenty of terrorist attacks, and their ethos is shifting, but I'm fairly certain that is caused solely by a questline. In my opinion it is exceptionally annoying that I'm not given a single choice in how to treat the new sub-species during the questline, I've had plenty of popups, but not a single choice.

My normals are intelligent conformists, I need them for science and colonizing remote systems.

Just leave them be, there's still a bug with negative divergence pops drifting towards neutrality over time. also a "neutral" pop is very unlikely to form a faction. Hell, I've always integrated every race I could find and almost entirely ignored factions and had a grand total of 2 small, easily squashed uprisings in over 100 hours of playing.

In my current game I've got a couple hundred pops in various factions and they haven't done more than inflict minor damage to a couple buildings and started a corruption campaign or two (Sabotage does nothing and the corruption thing can be fixed by pumping a couple hundred influence and power to slap them down every decade or two).

Edit: Otherwise you can just station troops on every planet they inhabit and let the faction expand to a full-on uprising, at which point it will self-annihilate.
