Borders not expanding?

It's been so many years and still my borders won't expand, at all. Is there some sort of policy or trait I need? Was it removed? Or is it taking longer than before?

Borders don't really infinitely expand. The rate of expansion is high at first, then slowly caps out. IIRC, it's based on population primarily, so if you're worlds are at max pop, they won't get much bigger.

There are techs to expand it (manifest destiny), and I think I came across a policy to boost it. Otherwise, use frontier outposts to push further without colonising.

Borders will only expand with the following: settling new planets, researching new border techs, or creating frontier outposts.

They only expanded while the colony was being established. Many of my planets have many pops but haven't expanded at all since the colony was established.

No. After some pops growth they will expand slightly more

I really hate Frontier outposts taking a constant influence points as well taking a lot of influence to build more than one or two.

Played further, still having the problem. A planet have all the pops possible, but has very small borders, hasn't expanded at all.

It's late-game and many areas are still cut-off in my Empire while AI-Empires are continuous.

You can disband old frontier stations.

You have to research the Border expanding Tech. It's a Society tech. The AI tends to get them at regular intervals.

I usually grab them asap to deny the AI area.

If you disband the outpost it'll lose you all the stuff that the outpost covered.

The AI's will do border expansion over and over like I do Naval Capacity and hability.
