Mods in multiplayer
Im curious as to how multiplayer mods work and if only cosmetic things can be used in multiplayer if all parties have the mods. For example when my friend and I play we keep getting desync errors

Every Mod works in Multiplayer, as long as all player have the same Mod

It seems like almost all mods somehow change your game version to be incompatible with anyone else. Dunno why though.

Same error here. The mod is called "new ships & classes". After a while there pop up a ingame-message "desynchronized entries:0 ships_design, next_weapon_index" in multiplayer games with two players. Both players have the same mods and stellaris-version.

Anyone know whats going on?

I've tried a number of mods in mp games and they did all work, however the game can get cranky when trying to join, the only way I've found to reliably join a modded game was to first launch the game with the correct mods enabled, then use the Steam join game function (ie. right click on the host's name in Steam and click on "join game"), everything else (ingame game browser, joining before starting the game etc.) has been problematic at best.

It's an ingame desync problem. Not a connection thingy. Two players in mp, both with the same mods and game version, both with a clean install and all patches and drivers up to date: desync error mssg shows up after 5 to 20 minutes ingame.

I play with that mod and a certain numbers of other mods, and it runs smoothly by me.

Sorry, I haven't had anything like that happen.

I'm getting desync as well. I'm playing with "new ship classes & more", "carrier sections". The culprit seems to be the former one.

I'm am going to echo Muffinman's reply. I am also getting desync issues when using the mod "New Ship classes and more" as well as "Carrier Sections." The desyncs messages seem to mostly center around "RANDOM_COUNT"

You should only get a dysnc message on multiplayer with mods if your mods are not the same version or the game client is not the same version as the host or vice versa.

I curate a selection of around 40 mods that me and some friends use in multiplayer games. As long as everyones clients are synced and the mods themselves are not known to cause issues with multiplayer you should not have any issue.

But you have to do your research when working with a modded client and ensure all your friends also have everything up to date. Sometimes stellaris and steam are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ about updating the mods the simplest way to ensure that any updates that get pushed out by modders are acquired is just a reboot on your steam client.

It should also be noted that as with any multiplayer game some issue can simply arise from local network related errors as well so that should not be rule out either if your problems are of an unknown cause.

In summation, check your client/mod versions and ensure they match those you wish to play with, troubleshoot your local network.

I can not play multiplayer because it appears that you have a different version of the game. I Checked, and I am not aware that the versions with the players are different but equal.
The latest is 1.4.1 and is precisely equal to all users.
You encountered the same problem?
Help please
