1 trade value = 1 energy credit assuming your not using marketplace of ideas/ consumer benefits as your set trade policy.
Trade value is created through clerks/other jobs, and sometimes found naturally in space deposits and need to be gathered up by a Starbase which will create a trade route sending it to your capital.
If the trade route isn't protected enough it will generate pirates which will leech a portion of trade so you receive less. If a foreign empire cuts off your trade route completely you will receive no value from it.

short and succinct, thank you!

so one last question, to make use of trade value you must have certain space station buildings correct? my confusion is based on the fact that after i break down a space station and the trade value icon appear, i see no loss of value (even after the month is over)

Planets with POPs create also trade value. It isn't linked to space stations to create it, just to collect it to transport it to your capital world.

If you don't focus on it, trade offers little.
If you focus on trade you will start out with +100 energy credits on unpausing the game.

As above, specialise mercantile first to get the policy to convert trade into unity.

Try to get a trade league going as soon as possible. Even a single system uplift will do., Because then you get both unity and consumer goods, for the price of only one.

wow so much info, even after 2000 hours i know so very little about this game

you can check your policies. the default is like wealth creation which is 1:1. there are others depending where it divides into other things for less energy.

I saw someone manage to get a 10k trade value planet.

Which if you have a trade league federation means:
5k energy (basically a full dyson sphere worth)
2500 Consumer goods (which should be most, if not all, you need)
And 1250 Unity (which can be generally enough for even late game!)

Hah yes for me it's easy to become greedy and go overboard on trade value. One only needs so much trade value. Ring segments end up at the level of a Dyson sphere. How does one do 10k on a planet?

"Trade value ..."
it broke the interface :D

And it's not even the largest thing in the current game.
Ecumenopolis 30, one can get to 39 since Overlord.

If you start with an ocean paradise start:
Upgrade to 33 first, would also give you a free 3 slots ^^
mss73055 Aug 10, 2022 @ 6:21am
Ocean Paradise is how to get to 39.
+3 ice
+2 Mastery of Nature
+4 orbit ring

I don't know if Expansion's +1 max districs holds. It may get to 40.

In essence, trade value is an asymmetrical resource that provides you with different resources based on your trade policy (default is always 1 trade value = 1 energy credit) it cannot be mined with construction ships instead starbases collect them for you and deliver it to your capital via hyperlanes. Starbases automatically collect any trade value available in its parent system but you'll need a starbase module to increase its collection range (i think its called trade depots or something) each of these increase your starbases collection by 1

Definitely go for the Consumer Benefits policy instead (CG rather than Unity from Trade)

Why? Because producing CGs from jobs costs minerals which are scarce after game start, and if you convert to CG instead you can fuel a whole lot of jobs for Research + Unity instead of the proportional amount of Miners + Artisans.

Also you can directly switch to Militarized Production for the +25% alloy / -25% CG from jobs. You still should have so many surplus CGs from trade that you can periodically sell them.

My general megacorp strategy this patch is to start with Remnants, build up Unity production in the capital, make the first 2 habitable planets into Trade + Research. Only downside is that the Trade planet needs to be within 3 clicks of the capital since you can only collect that far until upgrading the starbase (or researching the hyperlane registrar)

Then after restoring the Ecumenopolis at the capital, make it a full Unity center including all building slots (except infrastructure + capital-only buildings).
