Unknown Areas

I've started a game and I've surveyed all the systems that are open to me. I cannot seem to open the Uknown areas to expand. What do I have to do to be able to go further?

Perhaps you can't reach them with your FTL. Have youu researched a better /the best FTL?

If using wormholes build wormhole stations in systems near the edge of your range to increase it. If using hyperdrives just follow a route and if blocked by hostiles clear them. If blocked by closed borders tough.

I'm playing a race that uses Hyperdrive. No matter what i do when i go into an area the triangles say "unknown"

Every system is unknown until you survey it

Area is surveyed i'm refering to the areas beyond the area I surveyed. these are teh "Unknown" area

Basically I've surveyed the 8 stars I was given at the begining of the game. I cant seem to leave these systems to expand because they are "Unknown" My question is, What do I have to do to open them up?

Nevermind I see now. You cannot move further until you have contact with an alien race. My first contact just happened and now a new area has opened up to me.

perhaps he didn't activate his ship before clicking the unknown system

And they will remain unknown until you send a ship out there. You will notice that everyone is confused by what you are saying, which may be that you are not explaining it too well. With hyperspace you must follow the hyperspace lanes ( marked by white lines ), send your science ship along these to unknown systems to survey them.
