Alloys

Mix of both.

Traditions can offer powerful bonuses that the tech tree can’t provide, while tech is of course the easiest way to snowball.
Depends on the game settings and your goals. Alloys generally allow you to conquer territory (and pops) early, which you can turn around and use to increase your unity / research production beyond what you would be able to do just within your own starting borders.

Tech. Going fanatic egratatrian with parlementary system at the start of the game lets you start with 46+ unity a month, something everyone else wont get for awhile. You can complete the psionic ascension by 2220 no problem with this start. Once you have that, you can always respec out of parlementary system and make it meritocracy and something else afterwords.

Considering most other empires wont complete their ascension paths until 2240-2260, you have 20 years of a completed ascension path, and with fanatic ego you also get 10% more specialist output. Yeah you wont have as good leader bonuses for obvious reasons, but this start snowballs like crazy.

Plus you have access to the Utopian living standard if you can somehow get enough consumer goods to run it.

Early on tech or trade. Later on it usually doesn't matter because I get better planets.
Also the capital looses building slots to things like the embassy. And it got a fixed designation.

Mostly tech. Planet designations for the other resources are decent, but the tech world designation is weak (no actual tech bonus - just cheaper upkeep).

So the empire capital designation is best used as a tech bonus.

Honestly... my capital is always a research planet. As for unity... i dont even know how those numbers get as high as i get them but ahwel :) unity especially midgame is no issue what so ever.
I never even considered focusing alloys. I'm trying to do a run where i get early subjugations through war, but its not going very good after several restarts. Gonna try early alloy focus.

I would go tech and for districts a bit of everything, just so your cap has a nice baseline income of all resources.

Tech gives you everything else from the gold repeatables. If you grow your tech score it'll grow your economy score naturally under the victory conditions. Always tech. Tech > all

i do tech unless i need consumer goods or am losing food at the time, then i'll do an industrial zone. once industrial worlds start pulling their own weight then i phase out for more science.

Depends. Example:

Void Dwellers Megacorp - Research, because you can refit only your capital habitat with research districts, and you already produce a huge amount of unity just through the 3 starting habitats (something like 70+/month before building any new jobs for unity)

Remnants Megacorp - Unity, because when you restore the Ecumenopolis at your capital, a couple of building slots are still reserved for capital-only buildings. So you don't have room for a Research Institute + Labs in addition to the support buildings of whatever else you want to focus your ecumenopolis on.
So i turn the first two expansion planets into Trade and Research, where the smaller one becomes the Trade planet.

¿Por qué no los dos?

Tech HQ player, reason is easy for me and my playstyle/buildorder.

It could take much time for me to find a first/second/third tech planet. To play save, HQ is always tech focus :heavensrage:

Tech, but early on i’ll build a unity building just to keep my traditions coming in while recruiting all my leaders
