It's literally the most OP origin currently, so the opposite of what you wanted.

It obviously gives you lots of things, and the only real downside is the increased expansion influence cost since you can't negotiate out of it which you can just plan your build around countering with things like fanatic xenophobe. You can make your overlord attack people and just sit back and watch him get your claims for you, and then he will easily give you massive subsidies.

If you look at the option which is considered to have the most penalties, the prospectorium, the productivity bonuses you get will easily completely counter the tax you have to pay, and then you get a 75% bonus to your research after negotiating with your overlord. not to mention finding things like living metal deposits.

Bulwark is still the strongest option. Even on the highest difficulty the AI isn't just given free ships, so you can start the game stronger than anyone and then keep it that way with your 75% subsidy to your basic food mineral and energy economy.

Just wait, they are going to make it even better in the next patch when they let you stay as a subject after the main event.

Also, the Overlord having a civil war is a scripted event that happens all the time, further adding to the origin's effectiveness.
