Strategies to curb xeno growth?
I'm experimenting with a trade federation / void dwellers build. Main species is Thrifty with Void Dwellers start (100% on habitats). My neighbour was friendly but a little too close so I vassalized and then integrated them (with Citizenship rights) so they wouldn't be in my way. I regret that now, because they are not only growing on their own habitable planets, they are spreading all over my habitats, even though their habitability is lower there than my main species, and their traits are pretty much garbage. I wanted to leave them with full citizenship / growth / mobility rights so they could move easily between their best worlds and have their own rulers. But now they are growing everywhere and taking jobs that they are not qualified for. My main species has better traits but they are not being prioritised in the growth queue.

I know I could change Resettlement policy to Allowed, move them where they will be the most happy, and turn off their migration rights so they can't grow where they don't already have a pop. I just can't turn off their growth because I'm Xenophile. And if I had to do it over again, I'd probably not integrate them.

I'm just wondering what I have not thought of yet, so I wanted to check in with the community to see what other ideas you have, any tips and tricks that might be in my blind spot. I'm always trying to learn something new after 1200 hours in the game, and I'm often surprised to discover things that are obvious to others but not to me.

Can't xenophiles select which pop to grow, specifically, on each planet for the small growth penalty?

This.
Meanwhile set rights so you can resettle the undesirables and disallow spontaneous resettlement, put them all into a special habitat and then you can go back to your planets/habitats free of undesirables and unselect the specified growth to get the growth rate back.
The pops you don't like will now be in one place, specify it for menial labour like minerals or whatever their traits are good for.
Add more habitats as required, possibly start a penal colony (or resort, be the leader you want to be) for the same purpose.
Set your default rights and policies for refugees etc accordingly, so this disaster never happens again. We will never forget.

Sorry to hear that. I hated having a great game only to bork it by doing something with unintended consequences.

A longer term strategy is to set the species rights and conditions to the worst possible given your governments ethics. Over the long term they will migrate to other empires where their rights and conditions are better.

Strange, in my own experience as a Void Dweller whenever I do migration pacts with everyone and welcome all the xenos with open arms my own species still ends up being in the majority.

Could genetically modify the unworthy species :D

Use sacrificial church. Reduces sprawl from pops, gets rid of xeno, and gives you edict bonus :D

Death has never been this useful.

Thanks! Yes it turns out Xenophiles can practice eugenics after all. I can't put population controls on a whole species but I can micro them at the planet level. Micro should only last until I get the policies and rights sorted out.

I have not really used resorts and penal colonies in the past but I'm going to try them and see how they go.

So, I knew about all this stuff but I really appreciate your perspectives on putting it all together.

I had not thought of that. Migration has always been a bit of a mystery to me. Good idea.

I should clarify that they are in the majority overall, between my habitats and their planets, but not (yet) the majority on the habitats. My species won't grow on their planets but the game seems to prefer growing them on my habitats because I guess there aren't enough of them already and their habitability is good enough for them.

I'm going to keep building habitats with my own species and probably won't settle more planets.

I'm going bio ascension this time so that's definitely the goal. Nerve stapled FTW

I haven't tried the death cult build yet. Next time! So many different builds to try, this game never gets old.

well if you really want to slow down their growth, then i suggest killing them. Another possibility is gene-editing them into becoming slow breeders.
Maybe slvery will slow em down?

There are two settings within the species rights that help a lot with controlling where species can show up....

First take away free migration for the species. This will allow them to grow on their own worlds but they won't be allowed to migrate to other colonies without you forcibly relocating them. (you can do this with residency rights, if your ethics prevent you from doing so to citizens)

The more extreme option is to disable their reproduction rights. This will prevent them from growing anywhere in your empire. But you'll need to have authoritarian ethics to do so. That or xenophobe.

Either way if you're a xenophile you're gonna have a bad time trying to keep foreign pops from entering your empire. I know it's hard to say no to the extra envoys and trade value..... but it just doesn't play nice with certain empire types. Aquatic, and specialty homeworld starts among them.

If you have pop control on, you can pick which pops to grow with a penalty.

Thanks everyone! As a Xenophile, I have a few things I can try:
- Reduce all xeno rights from Full Citizen to Residency
- Force resettle pops back to their original 4 home worlds
- Take away free migration so they stay where they are
- Select pop growth on each planet until it's not possible for them to grow on my habitats because of reduced migration rights
- Make lots of new habitat worlds for my original species to grow
- Genetically modify xenos to be useful where they are, with traits different from my main species and planet specialization to suit

I'm used to the more authoritarian / xenophobe methods of extermination. Letting people live is a whole new dynamic.
