Question on allies claims during a war
I'm a MegaCorp, and have a rival empire that's slowly encroaching on my federation ally. I really want my ally to expand, and there are some ideal planets for them in systems bordering the edge of their territory. However, the rival empire looks like it will claim the system first. My plan is to go to war with them to stop this, but currently my only war goal option is to make them a subsidiary (I have no claims on them). There is a notification that my ally has 4 claims on some of their bordering systems in another area that hold a couple of un-colonized planets. My question is, if I go to war with this empire with the subjugation/subsidiary war goal, can my ally take those systems and get them if we win? I'm not 100% sure how wars with ally participants work.

If your ally participates in the war and those systems are fully occupied (if the war ends in a status quo), or regardless if it's a full victory, yes.

Even if my war goal isn't conquering claims? That's the part I'm confused about if my war goal affects what my ally can do.

Yes, claims are always taken into account. You can do a war with the goal of subjugating an empire, but you still want some of those systems for yourself so you set claims on them. At the end of the war, claims are transferred and the rest would be subugated.

Ahhh, got it. I assumed you had to specifically use the conquer claims war goal for that. That clears things up, thanks!!

I'm tempted on waiting until the rival empire claims this system then, and placing my own claim on it to take it from them and gift to my ally. They're aquatic and it's a size 23 Ocean world so I want to make sure they can colonize it. I'm also aquatic, but it's at the opposite end of their territory from where we border each other, haha. And I have plenty of planets already

That won't work because you can't gift systems to the AI that aren't already bordering them. And the AI also won't claim it themselves because AI empires only claim systems that are at max 2 jumps away from their existing systems (taking into account gateways), so it'd only work if you put a gateway in the system (or on a neighbouring one) and they also have one - at which point it'd now be bordering them so you should be able to gift it.

The system will border my ally. It's a system that borders the edge of my ally's territory. They just were never able to survey it and claim it before because of a Polaris automated fleet in the system. I destroyed the fleet so they could move in, but the rival empire beat them to it and is getting ready to make an outpost, primarily because my ally's science ships are so far away so they can't survey it timely. But the system definitely borders my ally, it's just on the other end of their territory from where I'm at, or I'd take it for myself since it's also an ideal planets for me.

Ah, I confused whose other end of the territory it was. In that case yeah.

No worries, I was kinda just thinking out loud so it wasn't super clear.
