I've never heard of this event chain before and i've never gotten it before, I just completed the first event and my scientist died? Despite my lack of knowledge on it I'm getting some serious lovecraftian cthulu vibes here, can someone explain what this is and what I should do?

This is part of an event chain, here some more information about it - https://stellaris.paradoxwikis.com/Horizon_Signal

WHAT WAS, WILL BE; WHAT WILL BE, WAS
What was Will be. What Will be Was.

Anyone else just not run into the event recently?

It's extremely rare. Enough so that there was a mod back in the 2.x series to increase its odds of appearing like 500% or something so you'd actually see it more than once in a blue moon.

Paradox changed it a few versions ago,now every black hole system you visit only counts for triggering the event once, leading to a vastly reduced chance to see it.

It's changed this way because you could simply make a science ship patrol through a black hole system until the event triggered.

Happy you. I haven't seen this event since it got "adjusted" a few years ago.

I wish Stellaris made this one even less likely to happen, but created a lot of super rare events like that that could radically change your civilization instead.

One of the best event chains in the game, and one of the few that actually made me care about what was going on.

Yeah agreed on both notions, the fun of Stellaris is the unpredictability of many games, building up on that is a plus in my book.

And yes, the horizon signal chain was sooo well written. And funny. "Well, at least it asked nicely" or "A creative form of treason. Execute them. Please."
Soo damn good ^^

Its one of the best event chains in the game (in my humble opinion), its also a long one with drastic effects if you go through with it. Not gonna spoil any details but i recommend doing the whole event chain :P

I think they also either hired or asked the writer for Fallen London (I think thats the name) to write this event as the game they work on is a very heavy text driven game and you can tell its written by someone else. Every option you go through is explained in depth and all are fun to try. I just hope the devs try making more events like that since it is fun to get it.
