How do I build a Hyper Relay system?

I wanted to make it easy to cross my empire and built some hyperrelays.
Do I have to build one relay in each system across the entire empire from one and to the other?
I built a string of Hyper Relays across hyperlanes that reach from one end to the other but I got no connection. They all just have the tooltip text "Currently this hyper relay has no destination"
What am I doing wrong here? These all cost me upkeep and they connect to nothing.

They only connect to relays in adjacent systems so yes, one in each system you want to make the highway.

Think of them as roads or railways, they all need to be connected together to work so don't waste resources putting them in places you'll never frequent.

Alright, then I am a little confused. I've got 7 hyper relays in solar system adjacent to each other and they somehow dont connect.

Does it matter where in the solar system I build? Should I choose the location carefully?

Should also post a pic, you can also right click from the galaxy view rather than having to go into each system while having your construction ship selected

Hello, thanks for the help but it turns out that all I had to do was reload my save file. For some reason it didn't display my hyperlane network. When I had to leave for some time and came back I reloaded the file and now I see the network! Now even after I add more systems to my network I can see it and there is no negative tooltip anymore.
Thanks everyone. Turns out it was just a graphical glitch.
