What do people mean when they keep referring to "Repeatables"?
What are "Repeatables"?

A type of tech? A type of ship? A tech which keeps showing up to be researched over and over like "shield strength +5%"?

Thanks

Technologies that become available late game when you finish with some tech trees. You can see which ones are repeatable by the gold border around the tech icon. Gives your researchers something to do late game when all the tech trees are done.

By that point, you will probably have researched the "auto-pick next research" tech, and just toggle it on and let her rip to save on micro management if you don't want to think about queing up the next repeatable. Or, if you are the min-max type, focus the repeatables for shields and weapons damage, whatever floats your boat.

Yes repeatables are like shield strength 5% and have a different border on the icons. They allow you to make use of science after tech tree options have been exhausted and introduced to make science resources still relevant late game. Ancient empires have a base value of level X repeatable tech on the ships so it would take a while to catch up to their ship power levels.

Yes, shields +5%, energy/monerals/food +5%, stuff like that.

So Marty - do you drive a sports car perhaps?

Anyway - I know Moo, I purchased my first Stellaris This May, never played before - have most of the DLC except, for now Overlords + Nemesis + a few race packs.
So I have the features of the 4.2 but not the specifics added by Overlords...yet.

I'm at year 2415 so far and no Crisis, just the single sleeper who awoke just a few months ago - keeping to itself. It has 3 fleets of 190K 190K 203K. Against the regular empire AI fleets my 70/30% battleship + titan fleets are mopping up well.

So in all my readings and video research I hear "repeatables" with the assumption everyone has been playing for a while knows it. Searching for this phrase in different ways got no results - thus the question here. My tech tree has been having these pop up for a while now so that was a guess.

Not sure what you were searching for. But there are several results explaining what repeatables is if you search for "Stellaris repeatables" on google. The information isn't hidden or hard to find in anyway.

P.S Don't mistake this for me saying that you shouldn't ask the question here, i don't mind people being lazy from time to time and asking other people stuff rather then looking them up themselves, just saying that "searching for this phrase in different ways got no results" is kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Repeatable tech also includes increases to fleet command limit, starbase capacity, leader lifespan and some other useful things which are not simply +5% bonus on some value. :]
CrUsHeR May 30, 2022 @ 6:59am
If you want an overview, look at the 3 technology types in the wiki. Repeatable techs are listed in blue.

https://stellaris.paradoxwikis.com/Technology

Some repeatable techs can only be researched a limited number of times, e.g. Admiralty Support Staff (Fleet Cap) won't appear anymore after researching it 5 times. All others are unlimited.

So yes I did google just that - and the first hit was the link CrUsHeR posted - and searching within that page for the word "repeatable" or repeat gives 0 results. Otherwise it is a rather long page, so figuring out what repeats by reading it....

The Russian Mod site a little lower down gives a better clue - but only by implication when reading through it. https://stellaris.smods.ru/archives/33280 - some of the others also have to be read between the lines but yes.

Principally I was interested in why the fleet design sites would mention "[this] design and fleet composition will win 80% of the time against opposing fleet composed of [that]...before repeatables."

Unfortunately they DO NOT then go ahead and specify best fleet design after repeatables, or provide a link to their version of that. Example: would lasers or kinetics ever become preferable over neutron launchers after x rounds of energy weapon fire rate or damage+5% ?
Elitewrecker PT May 30, 2022 @ 9:47am
A neutron launcher will always be more useful than a laser or plasma in the L slot, since they're all affected by the same repeatable.

The best designs after defensive repeatable are the arc emmiters with disruptors/cloud lightning (by focusing on energy weapon repeatables too), because they bypass the shields and armor (which are increasable with the repeatable techs) and hit the hull directly (which isn't something you can increase infinitely with tech).

With the repeatable +5% shield, if I hover over an individual hyper-shield will it the number shown increase from before the research completed?

Hmm - nevermind - Ship Designer does not show any bonuses - but inspecting an existing ship DOES show the +bonus.
Elitewrecker PT May 30, 2022 @ 4:02pm
Ye only built ships show the bonuses.

:steamfacepalm: so I found the issue I was having - new player and all - google was giving me so many hits on search phrases I used for other things mostly from 2016 at top of search list - and most of those comments were not relevant to current game+fixes
So I changed google search to only show results from now to -1 year. So those older repeatables results were not showing up. Funny nobody has discussed them in about a year :steamfacepalm:
