tired of constant updates breaking mods
Are there only a few people that play with mods or something? Game has been out for 6 years now and this problem happens with every update. I can never finish a single game without something breaking. Might as well quit until they stop updating the game. Is there really no solution? Or no one cares?

PDX supports games long-term. This isn't new, nor is it news. Looking at the dev diaries, blogs and the trends in their other games, they will continue to do so. Objectively then, no, I do not think they care if you stop playing because you're upset that they are supporting their game.

People care; they just care enough to pursue better solutions than "don't play the game until development ceases."

Solutions:
1. Choose what version of the game you want to stay on in the Betas tab of the game's Properties in your Steam library, and back up your mods/don't download them from the Steam Workshop, as Workshop mods auto-update.

2. Manage to finish a 20 hour game within the span of several months.

Use Irony Mod Manager to create a local modpack that will never be automatically updated.
Then once the patch hits, use the Steam Beta featurego back to the old version you were playing.
Problem solved.

There are several months between the final version of a major update and the next big update.

Downgrade to an older version and use outdated mods that are designed for that version. Now you never need to worry about new releases.

Game updates allow modders to create even better mods, based on newer DLC and game assets.
