How do I stop forced migration?
Hi all,

After googling didn't turn up my answer, I was wondering - how do I stop forced migration? I'm playing a Xenophobe/Militarist/Materialist Empire and just recently integrated a species I enlightened. Default rights are set to Residence with Migration Controls on, and the integrated planet has a "Land Appropriated" modifier (can't recall exact name off the top of my head but it gives a migration bonus to the overtaking empire).

I don't really want to convert them to slaves to keep them from leaving, so do I have any other options? Also is there a way I can force them to resettle with keeping migration controls on? (ie, I don't want them to move around freely but I want to manually move one of them to one of my other worlds for, say, clone army building or mining, for example).

Thanks a bunch!

I assume those pops are already in the process or migrating?

Yes, they have the little red sign that says they are migrating. That said I could revert to an earlier save if I need to.

Resettlement is a separate empire-wide policy I think, you'll have to turn it into allowed.
You could try slaving them, I guess that would stop the migration, but then you'd have to wait to unslave them again.
I've seen this problem when trying to, after winning a planet in a war, genemodding them for hive mind while they were being processed, not sure if I ever solved that.

i think in species right you can deny them migration rights. i think it will make em a bit unhappy though.

if you have land appropiation on, that means that only citizens can live on core worlds. so if you gave them residence status only, they will be forced out. thats in policies/edicts somewhere.

He said migration controls are on which is weird then why they're migrating.

cos the land appropiation is forcing them to migrate

Oh, didn't know that.

Also check your policies to make sure your core worlds aren't set to Citizen and Slaves only.

isn't there a setting/policy that determines which species may live on core worlds? i think that's set to master species only by default (if you're playing xenophobe), so the xenos will be kicked out if their planet is a core world.

if that's the issue, you could change that policy or move their planet to a sector to stop the forced migration

It is the empire policy for core worlds for sure, agreeing with the above. In your empire policies, need to set it to all species from citizens and slaves only.

Caught me the first time too.

I'm pretty sure I left land appropriation on (I didn't really understand what it did so I didn't play with it). I'll try and fix it and see if that helps.

Okay, based on what everyone has said, I found two fixes:

  1. Go to "Policies and Edicts" tab, scroll down to "Core Worlds Population" option and change it to "all species"
  2. Create a new sector that includes the planet (or include it in an already created one).

You can pick one or the other, you do not need both.

Thanks for the help guys!

Make them happier or turn off migration in the edicts tab(turns it off for everyone I think) and/or you can turn off that one species migration in the species tab

Yeah, ensure they are allowed to live in your core worlds in both species and government edicts tab. Most every time that form of migration is caused by that issue.

The other one is less common, but can occur. You get a species through conquest or by capturing with despoilation raids, but then do not have the habitability for them to continue living there. They might have only been able to live on that planet due to a governor, tech or strategic resource you do not have.
