Right now, probably. Week’s time: not a chance.

Advice: enable the tutorial, allow VIR to nag you repeatedly and be prepared to classify your first few saves as learning experiences.

Oh and wait a week.

I noticed that the tutorial messages are not coming in or showing up next after next (like a full "down the throat" tutorial) that makes it worse for me as i planlessly roam around and watch space haha

check the situation log if VIR spams you too much, there is a synopsis of tutorial missions in there. There is a button for it on top left of screen.

and just spam spacebar/pause all the time if it goes to fast.

take your time, it may take around 5 games to find your style n way around, just keep trying

VIR mostly describes various windows, it's not that helpful. Missions are better but they don't cover the entire game either. And I think nothing except the usual notifications tells you to do research.

I appreciate every answer, the game sounds very promising for me and i like the overall style in appearance. Sweet sweet universe awaiting! Gonna check those missions then

VIR gives you missions to research, explore, clear blockers, build buildings, build military ships, build a second science ship, build a colony ship, build a outpost, build mining stations, build reserach stations, get some decent positive income, make a sector, probably few more.

that sounds more then enough to get you started to me. the missions tend to not show up if you are already doing the things the missions are about.

Is it somewhat necessary to buy some of the DLC? A friend of mine recommended me the Galaxy Edition or something similar sounding as he said the game isn't that complete without it. Any recommendations?

At the start of the game, VIR should pop up and introduce himself, and ask if you want full/medium/no tutorial. if that doesn't happen for you, find the tutorial seting in the options somewhere.

I was in for like 60 minutes and VIR did come up with tips and easy tasks, i just thought i'd get a fully fledged tutorial thats pretty much it. Still thanks to all of you :)

The game will get a big update next week, with major change to the gameplay. So if you want an advice, wait a week, because the few things you will learn will probably be useless soon ^^

nova/galaxy edition only cosmetic stuff, and mostly non in-game stuff at that.

As for DLC at this point id just figure out if you enjoy the base game first before spending money, especially with the 2.0 patch next week.

You can also play a multiplayer game with your friend as host, and you will be able to try out all the DLC he has.

Yeah this game is confusing at first, just keep playing you will understand. The war system is more confusing, its rather unconventional.

And in a weeks time it's going away.
My plan is for a small test game to see how everything works. A few empires. Plenty of room.

A few tutorial videos are up on youtube but they're going to have to be redone as well. They have confirmed the ingame tutorial is being updated for the new update.
