"checksum modified"
Hello comrades, I recently bought Stellaris. A couple of hours played, going into the game the next day I noticed that the multiplayer does not give any servers, and the version of the game has changed from 73bb to 0c91 and when I point at it says "checksum modified". (DLC purchased) Did everything - reinstall, delete all files Paradox, clear folders in Appdata. Nothing helped. Please help.

Yes, it sounds like there's a file corrupted or copied accidentally in your install folder. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ and delete the "Stellaris" folder, do not delete the one in /documents/ (this is where your savegames and empires are kept). Then right click Stellaris -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify Game Files and Steam will redownload the game, and you should then be able to play without issue (as long as you're not running any mods).

Checksum modified means mods or corrupted files. Did you download mods?

So you don't have a steam/steamapps/workshop/content/281990 folder?

did u maybe opted-into any Betas?

that wouldn't modify the checksum, just be a different official one

I have the problem that I want achievements but my game also states that my checksum is modified. Now I went back to the launcher and created a new playset (called 'Vanill') where there are no mods. Chose 'Vanill' at the play button and went in. Still no luck. The red description's tooltip still states that the checksum was altered.

Do I have to completely uninstall the mod that I have on here? (It's a star trek mod, 1,3 GB)

Your best bet is to delete the steamapps/stellaris/ folder, (not the one in /documents/) and then right click Stellaris > Local Files > Verify Game Files, and be sure you're not opted-into any Betas (in the Steam Library, it should say "Stellaris" with nothing in brackets)

When you say "delete all files" you mean you made sure the install location was empty as well?

Yes, under "Installed mods" it only lists this one entry. And as I said it is excluded in the 'Vanill' playset.

But have you downloaded more mods at some point?
Geordy Sep 21, 2022 @ 3:01pm
No

Well, make sure the workshop folder only has that one mod, and possibly do as the quoted mod post above and delete the game's install folder and then verify files for a reinstall without having to download the mod as well.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
