It's rough to kill those things due to their high hp pool and high hp Regen and that's all there is to it.
Does mean you need significant firepower though, and this firepower needs some overkill as shard kills a fair chunk of your fleet before it is dead and if you lose too much it's not enough to maintain enough damage to outperform the Regen.
I mean, it has a massive number of HP/armor. so regen which a % should be huge too, but I'd never even notice it in previous versions.
I've also noticed that my star eaters were regenerating a LOT more in this patch, actually made me consider using regen components on other ships, for a change.
I ripped through Shards armor pretty fast this time, only lost 1 battleship. But then the green health bar not taking any damage at all and after a 2 or 3 minute battle, more than half the fleet was destroyed and the admiral decided to give up. Admiral got depressed because of this.
If you don't do enough damage in a timely manner then retreat and bring in more ships next time.
If you want to take out any creature fleet then you need more firepower than the rating of the target.
For example you can take a fleet of corvettes at 1200 strength vs an amoeba that is 1100 and your fleet will constantly lose. This is because you do not have enough firepower to counter the hull regeneration.
