Must have DLC?
Last one I bought was Utopia several years ago. Are there any have to have DLCs to come back to the game? Since they are on sale.

Thanks

Yeah that one looked pretty decent, thanks Steven

In order of "must have" -ness, I'd rank them:
Utopia > Synthetic Dawn > Apocalypse > Federations > Mega Corp > Nemesis > I assume Overlord (I have no desire to buy it).

The species packs are also a great bang for your buck. I love the aquatics and death species.

Synthetic Dawn is fantastic. It gives you access to "Machine intelligence" empires, including exterminators, cyborg assimilatiors, and servile robots seeking to subject all life to forced pampering.

I loved Apocalypse. Death Stars, Titan capital ships, marauders.

Federations was great. More federation options, Juggernaut, Mega Shipyard

Mega -Corp would be a huge miss for me, if it weren't for two things: Ecumenopolis and Matter Decompressor. Everything else in it is garbage.

Nemesis - Espionage sucks. Getting to "Become the Nemesis" is cool, but it's over powered. You can also become the emperor like in Star Wars.

All of them. Paradox games without DLC are empty.
Buy the game pass from them realy. Its all or nothing, as some DLC are nessesary for 100% of the features of future DLC's etc. The pass costs what? 5 bucks a month and you have them all for untill you cancel the "membership". Its still cheeper than buying them all realy.

I agree with this list besides Apoc, which I think should be behind Megacorp simply because the Deathstars remove any ability to engage in diplomacy if used even a few times. Titans are cool but not much of a selling point. Mauraders spice up mid-game, the only reason imo to get the dlc.

Utopia is the basic dlc, you can play the game for quite a while with just that dlc and have fulfilling play throughs. Utopia also allows a multitude of play styles where a lot of the other DLCs just add 1 or 2 play styles to the game.

penalties for blowing up planets no longer kill your relationship with everyone else plus there are other weapons to fit on it if you insist

If so I apologize, I have not built them in a while because of the diplomatic debuff.
When was that changed?

Edit: The penalties are still staggering and a joke. While it isn't a crime with everyone the person/federation you use it on is still going to hate you for probably the rest of the game.

A good example is the divine enforcer which is the least penalizing of all, all pops become spiritualist, which is great for making the victim conform more to your ethics. HOWEVER you get -400 with the victim and -100 with everyone in their federation PER PLANET. The only way I ever see even that one being used is if you conquer all their planets in said war. Even for most of the colossi it would be more valuable to just conquer then move all their pops away.

another thing of note is if you ever want to experience the game with all or just some dlcs you can join a multiplayer lobby hosted by someone who has all the DLC and be able to try them that way

The more the better. I would just choose whichever ones speak to you. Some have better "value" than others, but none of them actively detract from the experience.

Utopia/Federations are usually cited as must haves. You can Google "Stellaris DLC ranked" or "best Stellaris DLC"

I'll throw my support in for Megacorp.

Federations/Apocalypse are awesome if you want big ships as Feds come with Juggernauts and Apocalypse comes with Titans. I'd recommend going to the Guides section of Stellaris, going to Gameplay guides and viewing the DLC buying guide as it goes into full detail of what each DLC comes with so you can make the best informed choice on what DLC's you'd like to have first.

Edit:decided i'd just save you the time of looking it up https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2184378602
