This was removed from the game because the old victory conditions weren't very interesting anyway. The only victory condition remaining is the score victory, which you can find in the situation log.

This is not correct.

You can move the end-date slider all the way to the right to turn off the score victory (The game will tell you then, on the victory tab, that "Victory Conditions are turned off", but this is not accurate).

What is then available are two victory conditions:

1) Purge. If you purge the galaxy of all other races, you will get a victory screen.
2) 100% control over the galaxy. If you defeat all other empires you will get a victory screen.

I have verified both of these, BTW.

What exactly is the difference between purge and 100% control? Arent you defeating everyone in both cases?

The end game screen is the absolute worst. They would have been better off coming up with a 100 different splash screens for each government type and ending type. then the basic already known numbers they throw at you, And if you won a purger victory. Its just your basic current stats. Not even complete stats. The absolute worst.

Myself I would love graphs at the end. I would spend an hour at the end of a SOSE game looking at the graphs.

I agree

My first experience with end game statistics and graphs was in the Civ series.

I used to love watching the over all graph of power between empires as they battled it out.

Using your imagination between the peaks and valleys of a single line as it pertained to your empire as it struggled and triumphed.

It’s a shame Stellaris doesn’t have something similar

Federation or Vassalization. Pick your poison.

Those were cool. So were the alternate victory conditions.

See that’s one thing I’ve never cared about.
Victory conditions.

I have won and lost games in 4x where I scummed the situation in order to win a science victory or diplomatic one.
The victory screen pops up and it feels so hollow (in my opinion) because I wasn’t the legitimately best empire.

I get why certain gamers enjoy it and I think having the option is nice but for me personally I love that Stellaris just makes you set your own.

None the less , the aforementioned graph would have been nice even if the conditions for victory aren’t varied

3) Have all other empires, and you in a single federation.

I figured that would work. I'd like to think that one day we will find a state of equilibrium where conquest isn't seen as the most effective solution to anything, but that's just me. And I recognize that it would be difficult, and highly subjective, to have a victory condition where everyone's ok where they are and has generally taken to cooperation. 'Cause, you know, the whole "let's make paradise while robots do all the hard work" thing worked out so well in Dune.
Of course, there are still crisis, awakened empires, inter-dimensional intrusion, AI uprising, and eventually you'll research planet killers simply because you've researched everything else and there's always some disturbed genius who is just curious if it can be done... so, yeah.

FWIW, Rock, Paper, Shotgun has a great piece from 2016 on the problem with Stellaris' victory conditions and even compares them to other Paradox games, which the author finds superior. It's confusing how a game that's advertised and expanded based on RP and story is so flawed in this critical area (and in the diplomacy system).

I agree. There are so many possible conditions, but non are implemented. I always look at the Dev diarys and think: ok, and when will you like promised work on the victory conditions? It´s a great game, but so...
Well, nice to see here, that pointing out the time-victory will result in purge/control victory.
roibrulé Sep 2, 2022 @ 8:33am
I feel like the win condition are currently ok but I wish they was more way to do it. For example my empire that is currently the emperor of the galactic community has vassalized every single empire but one in the galaxy wich make it mostly invincible so why does the game doesn't count it as victory? I could just integrate it but it would ruin my eco.

I play until I get bored and then start over. Rinse and repeat.

Nice necro by the way!
