Can't force peace with 100 enemy attrition?
I just tried to capture a fallen empire's territory, defeated all it's fleet, occupied the system, just couldn't overtake the planet, as it had a ridiculousy big army, that kept growing in spite of constantly being bombarded and having 100 devastation...

So I thought, as their 'war progress' or what was higher than mine, I'd just wait for attrition to climb slowly to 100 and then as I understand I should be able to force a peace.
Sadly, that didn't happen, the Achieve War goals option remained at -100. When I tried to take over the planet and many of my armies died, resulting my War progress also reaching 100, I received a warning that the enemy can force peace in 2 years...

Wasn't I supposed to be able force the victory?

im pretty sure 100% war attrition only forces status quos

you can force peace, not unconditional surrender or anything like that.

you can probably do a status quo peace and get parts of your objectives.

You could force the status quo, after 2 years they're forced to accept if you want. You can't force a full surrender, that would be OP.
And you can't take the planet by status quo if you can't successfully invade it.

So... in that case, how can you overcome a fallen empire at all? If I try to capture a planet that has 9000 worth army defending, I'll lose a lot of my invading armies, and as the attacker losses are calculated as war progress for the defender, but killing defender armies are not considered war progress for the attacker, they will just win the war by sitting building armies non-stop...

Doesn't matter if you lose a hundred armies, as long as you take the planet it'll be yours as long as you keep it to the end.
And you can always spend a dozen years bombing it.
Even if you're the one who gets 100% exhaustion and they force status quo, you keep the planet as long as they don't retake it.

bring a ton of troops, bombard the planet until you can invade, or go the drastic route if you have apocalypse and roll a colossus into their space. neutron sweep always worked great in the past

The question ist also: What is the wargoal? Will by reaching of this goal the enemy stop to exist? If i remember correctly, such wars can Not won by Victory/enforce peace, but by overtaking all Planets.

Also, bring *better* troops. I very nearly took a FE planet with 10 troops last night.

They were Mega Warframes, but still...

Well, the war goal is to claim the only system they have. My only fear is that by the time I take 2 planets worth like 10-15k army strength altogether, I lose so many armies, that my war attrition gets so high that the enemy might force a status quo peace on me.

Again it doesn't matter if they can force the status quo. Not only do they have to wait 2 years after 100%, as long as you're holding the planet at that point, you keep it.
Cryten May 18, 2019 @ 7:13am
Yeah status quo is what you want. As long as your holding territory you have claims for it becomes yours. Heck if your a total war type it become yours even during the war. Stop being worried about partial wins. The war weariness system exists to make partial wins a regular part of the game.

What He said. In total war the enemy will never have Up, as it would meant the end of the Empire. But you can have What you conquer after Status quo, even when IT IS forced. Get your troops and Generals in shape, or do they want to live forever?

It's not after. In a total war it's immediately yours.

only their homeworlds have super strong armies. if you have claims on their whole territory, you can often get to the force victory requirements without invading any of the strong planets, or at least without having to invade all the strong planets.

ah yeah if theyve only have 1 system left at the start of the war you gotto bite the bullet and commit a large number of armies and/or bombard a while first.

i recommend you do it though, before they decide to get angry about it.
