Here be Dragons Origin Issue
Can any confirm or deny that, if your original dragon dies, you loss your ability to make new dragons? I was playing MP, no mods, and my dragon got killed, and I was no longer able to make new dragons or more dragon hatcheries. I had 7 fledglings and couldn't make anymore. even the starbase that had a hatchery on it couldn't make dragons. Is that a thing? If you loss the OG dragon, you loss your access to dragons?

That would make sense. It's not like you're cloning them, and the ones you hatch aren't sexually mature. If you don't have the original dragon, where are the hatchlings going to come from?

It is a bit disappointing though. If you use the dragon on the front line, then one lost battle and you lose your dragons. If you don't then you lose an asset in war.

how do you get to use them? i never get the tech to use living metal, so the deposit just sits there and i can never make them.

You can buy living metal on the market.

Whenever I need a resource that isn't spawned on the map or I don't have the tech for, ex nanites, zro, living metal, I trade with a fallen empire. Give them some dark matter in exchange for a chunk of what you need and bam, like Xaphnir insinuated, that resource is unlocked on the market.

Also, if you're ever lucky enough to get the archeology for the living statues, sit on the decision of what do with them! Get a standing army of several thousand. Trigger them hostile. Kill them. That planet will now auto-produce living metal.

If you try this route, and you ask yourself "Do I have enough troops for this?" The answer is always no.

I agree!

Typically used to let them live because extra free troops protecting from invasion ftw. That was until doing I did a play through as a ravaging swarm.

Man... several thousand in army points is a generalization for taking down these suckers. When I did it the first time I invaded to retake the planet with like 3k whilst multiple reinforcement armies between 300-700 were en route. Without those reinforcements that would have been a failed siege. Even as a lithoid race.

Edit: My apologies for going off topic. Was searching through forum for whether the dragon babies can mature into stronger babies; saw this and figured to give tips on finding living metal to create the dragonspawn in the first place.
