To buy or not to buy - that is the question
Howdy folks! Let me cut to the chase.

Since I like complex games (I play EvE Online) I figured I'm going to give this one a try, tried the demo out and was positively surprised how complex the game is. Therefore, I have a quick question to you veteran players. I'm contemplating purchasing the mega bundle, which is currently on sale however I keep stumbling upon plenty of contradicting opinions about the DLC content. Some folks say it's not worth buy certain DLC, whereas others say to buy the basic version and deck it out with mods.

I want the the full-blown immersion with useful features. Should I buy the mega bundle or the base version of the game and hand-pick the DLC?

I was same as you and have had this game in my wish list for some time. Now it is on sale so I jumped in and bought the ultimate bundle. It has not disappointed me. I can can see myself spending many hours at a time playing the game. Have been happy with the purchase.

The content is good. Some are a bit buggy but they're rare enough to not be too game breaking. But people disagree with how paradox is monetizing it. You're paying like 5 or 6 times the price of the base game to double the content.
Definitely get the ultimate bundle on sale because it's a scam otherwise.

The game is definetly worth buying.

It is super deep and complex but also easy to get into.

Stellaris with all of its DLCs will definetly net you 1000-2000 hours playtime until "you played it all". Meaning all the different empires and strategys.
And after that there is an endless amount of Mods wich offer totally new gameplay.

I myself spent 200-300 hours just with the standart human empire to learn all the base and core mechanics before venturing out trying new empires and thats where the real fun begins: when u know the base mechanics and get creative with empire/strategy creation urself.

Im now 450 hours into the game and its a hell of a fun ride.

You can get the game and all of its DLCs from keyseller sites for a fraction of a cost.
I think on MMOGA the whole package costs arround 60-70€ which is a murder deal for the content ur getting.

In my opinion Stellaris is by far the best 4x game out there, it is an experience which no other game offers, the almost perfect space opera sandbox.

And as i played EvE myself, if u like deep and complex games, stellaris is definetly must-buy.

So @OP i highly reccomend you buying the game/dlcs from keyseller sites, because u will safe like 50% in total.

But even if u get it from steam, 98€ is a very good deal.

I would buy the base game with Utopia and synthetic dawn DLC. The game has a huge enjoying steep learning curve which will take you awhile to figure out the mechanics. That should get you to the next sale and then you can decide to buy more DLCs.

Buy when you can get a good discount bundle or when there is a big sale.

But definitely buy!

<edit> and try out the community mods!

Defiantly buy the bundel, get it all, because after playing for a bit your going to want to buy all the dlc anyways. They all add to the experince, also After you beat the game a few times don't forget the community mods that add ALOT more complexity and events.

As a former EVE player of many years, I would have to say that Stella will scratch that itch for you many times over. And no Goons ganking you for a ship that took you 3 months of real time playing to acquire.
And if you have ever done a "Ski Weekend", or had a "Lost Weekend", the price for the entire DLC collection is money much better spent. And you won't roll into work on Monday with a broken leg or a hang-over.

I own all DLC, except the fish DLC which just doesn't appeal to me at all, and I'm not disappointed in any of them.
