Get the fleet numbers as high as possible to the fleet cap.

Ie u want 20 corvettes asap and the money to upkeep them

Militarized economy with your first colony being an industry/refinery world that is specialized to make alloys and building mining districts in your capital if we're talking really early. Then use starbases to defend against the enemy so you can focus all your military in a single fleet. I typically prefer to focus research early on though to get my naval capacity, fleet capacity, and fleet quality all up for mid game strength. Though if you spawn and immediately run into a hostile empire then it might not be an option.

Starbases are weak late game, but early on are quite effective. Though without FTL inhibitors you should use corvettes to drag the enemy fleets into the starbase.

Make alloys, limit expansion because that also costs alloys, switch to militarized economy, immediately declare war on a neighbour as soon as you hit a tech timing such as tier 2 reactor, blue lasers, and tier 2 shields.

If you can't do any of this then don't bother playing for the early game.

1. is militarized economy a policy or just a style of economy
2. When you get better ships like destroyers and cruisers, do you just add them to that 20 corvette fleet you mentioned earlier
3. Should i really only have 1 fleet at all times?

1 Yes

2 Also yes but by then you'll already have the cap at like 50 or more and the command limit will also be higher as well.

3 in the early game its always better to have 1 fleet since A ur empire is tiny and you need all the fleet power that u can get plus having them parked in ur empire home system s starbase is great since it comes with a module to decrease upkeep of ships by 25%

once you have the ability to have like 100 ships then i would spilt them but it depends on your game sense when u do that.

once i get higher naval capacity i'd start splitting into at least 3 fleets. Also what's game sense

game sense is basically knowing how to play the game whats most optimal whats a mistake ect ect ect.

Its in all games as well its a bit like when u ride a bike u gain whats called 'muscle memory' ur body remembers how to bike so u can do it again.

Gamesense is just your 'sense' of the game lol. Like your knowledge/understanding of what is happening and what you feel like you should do.

For example, if you're a tall empire that doesn't have many systems and is pretty well defended with only 1 or 2 hyperlanes into your territories and no wormhole's or L-gates then you only need a single fleet. However, if you're a wide empire, have plenty of enemies and have plenty of places to be attacked from, having multiple fleets is usually better.

Typically, you want/need to have less fleets but massive ones as you'll find yourself punching up until the late game. For example, Leviathans, mid and late game crisis' and enemy empires on higher difficulty levels. But it really just depends on what your empire is looking like. The messier your borders, the more fleets you might need. Hence the game sense. What's important to keep in mind is what's necessary to win the war itself. For example, it's not really a big deal if the enemy has some loose fleets in your lands UNLESS it's a total war (and they're taking full control of your systems/planets) OR they have a colossus. Usually you can just ignore them, take your claims and defend what they claimed (usually the systems that directly border them) to peace out with ease.
