Aquatic species : Ecumenopolis and Ring Worlds
So, I find it very frustrating that playing an aquatic city seems to lock you out of the advantages of both Ecumenopolis and Ring World.

Has there been any number crunching about what aquatic species lose by not being able to fully exploit those end game developments ?

I also very much regret this aspect of Aquatic species is once again half baked in Stellaris : there definitively should be oceanic versions of the Ring World and Ecumenopolis if you are playing Aquatic Hydrocentric.

I really think they once again added DLC without truly integrating it, just a layer added that doesn't connect with the existing.
This was probably the last DLC I get tempted in really, though the current effort to finally streamline and bring ameliorations to the game (FINALLY) is appreciated.

I haven't crunched the numbers but I can say they loose nothing since the Ocian world bonuses they get are borderline OP, you just need to tech fast to get terraforming and pick up Hydrocentric.
After that, cheap terraforming, pretty much all your planets have -15% housing usage and +15% worker output over its more expensive and higher tech/effort contempories. There are some truely disgusting combinations with existing elements that I suspect, and will check later, might actually be on par with min/max machine build.

Aquatics are pretty terrible later on, but you can start with only the trait for a nice early game boost and then get rid of it later.

Everything else in the aquatic species pack - except maybe the dragon, once its living metal deposit no longer bugged - is pretty lackluster, and doesn't lead anywhere in the long run. Some very interesting ideas, but they just don't fit into the framework of how the game plays out.

I dont know about Ecumenopolis, but an oceanic ringworld would stress me out.

It'd probably stress out the structure too.

At least you aren't penalized for inhabiting them unlike habitats, then you're screwed.

Dead thread, I know, but you can take a Deluge Colossus to flood habitats
