Is it possible to defeat a sky dragon early game?
I'm currently in a war with a race that has a sky dragon and I'm preparing to invade their home system. However, it's early game and all I have are about 100 cruisers with tier 2 shields and energy weapons. Should I just peace them out and leave them surrounded until later or might I be able to take them down?

I find that usually about 15K fleet power is enough to usually take a dragon with fairly heavy losses with the right setup. After that point, its mostly about minimising losses.

Edit: I realize now that the sky dragon is the new aquatic leviathan and I was thinking of the Shard.

If you specialize against it you can beat it with a much lower fleet. The dragon's fleet power is around 50k

With a focus on energy and shields you can probably beat it around 20k.
An Ether Drake? Or a modded critter? 100 Cruisers is not early game do you mean Corvettes instead?

If it is an Ether Drake you want about 25-30k anti-armour/hull with shielded ships or 45k ish if you want to be safe plus enough to take out their fleet/s and their best station. Baby Drakes are much weaker but still want a fairly large fleet to kill it.

He is talking about the new sky dragon leviathan that spawns to defend a faction with Here Be Dragons origin from aquatic pack.

yeah a fleet specialized in ripping armor and hull of a decent power can handle it. if you cant make 1 single 20k fleet, just get your capacity up and make a few fleets of around 5k, break your fleet limit if you have to, (you'll be under it by the time this fight is over lol.) as long as all those ships dont have weapons with damage penalties against armor, you should be ok.

against an AI yes against a player that knows what they doing then it would be tough

You need to go armor weapons + shields on your fleet, they can counter you with a shield weapons + shields fleet + there dragon.

once you both have battleships your fleet wont be able to target the dragon until you've destroyed all there shield battleships with your armor weapons and you then need to watch for the backdoor from that dragon as it jumps into one of your systems.

Tried out this origin.

In some cycles the dragon needs to eat and rests on the surface (if the player/AI chose that option).
Try to strike then?! (not sure if it rises again when attacked though)
Do it for science and tell the tale!

If the player is attacked the dragon will take off early.
