Paradox Launcher is awful

Here's my experience today, trying to reinstall and play Stellaris after purchasing new DLCs.

* Install the game via Steam
* This automatically installs and launches the Paradox Launcher
* Paradox Launcher cannot find my Steam installation of the game
* Spend ~30min looking for answers to this issue, find none.
* Give up and re-install from the Paradox Launcher, and uninstall from Steam.
* None of my mods will be there, so while it's installing, I go look at their on-site Mods
* In order to subscribe to a Mod, I have to be logged in. But the Paradox website says I first need to 'verify my email address' ... I did not receive a verification email.
* Spend another ~15m looking for answers, and find none.
* End up needing to reset my password on the account that I *JUST CREATED* in order to receive a verification email that I didn't know I needed.
* Now I'm logged in and can try subscribing to Mods.
* Mod library is terribly sorted, descriptions full of terrible formatting, can't understand what any of these are meant to do unless they're also on the Steam Workshop...
* Get frustrated and go check on installation -- yay, it's done!
* ... Paradox Launcher says it cannot find the game that it just installed.
* Reset Launcher.
* Game still isn't showing up.
* Try to manually search for it, but cannot locate the %AppData folder it apparently installed into by default.
* Shut down launcher.

Next steps are probably going to be:

* Get refund for DLCs purchased today.
* Ignore Paradox forever.

Get your crap together, guys. Launcher software should be an absolutely KNOWN QUANTITY in this modern era. How do you screw it up so monumentally?!?!

Lancher issues aside, why use Paradox website for mods? Steam workshop takes care of all that.

Having dealt with other off-Steam launchers in the past, my assumption was that I'd need to re-install mods through their Launcher in order to have them register with the game.

It's a moot point, since I never got that far with this Launcher.
