Residency vs Indentured Servitude & Land Appropriation
I'm playing as an authoritarian, militarist, xenophobe and I'm fairly early in my game (about 35 years in). I just won a war against a lithoid race who had 10 planets (I guess their habitability bonus allows them to colonize a lot faster than others). Before the conclusion of the war, I only had 2 planets (my home world with 50 population and one brand new colony with just 2 pops). I annexed 8 of the lithoid's 10 planets, so I went from having 2 planets to having 10 overnight.

Because I'm a xenophobe, the pop's of these 8 new worlds were all turned into slaves. The lithoid empire had another race evolve on their home world, so I have two new races of slave pops.

It seems as though keeping the main lithoid race as chattel slaves is definitely not a good option; as the ratio of workers to specialists & rulers would be overwhelming. I would have a ton of unemployed workers. So for the primary lithoid race, it seems as though my choices are between Residence or keep them as slaves but switch to Indentured Servitude slavery. If I go for indentured servitude, I'm guessing I'll have to use Land Appropriation to have rulers for these new worlds. I tried this way to check & my homeworld of 50 pops would lose 13 pops & go down to 37. Not only is that huge hit to my homeworld's population, but also it would turn 13 newly conquered pops into refugees. and if I understand it correctly, I would lose them.

So what would you do? Which do you think is better: turning the primary lithoid pops into residents & turning off Land Appropriation ? or leaving them as slaves but switching to indentured servitude & leaving Land Appropriation on? Or is there a better third option? Thanks in advance

You give them Full citizenship actually and get the third ones to be the slaves actually.

From there tho u can do whatever u want.

I found out that its better to have that govt perk that makes 40% of your whole empire slaves so while you're in full citizenship mode u still get slaves so they wont become refugees

I don't think I can give full citizenship because I'm xenophobe.

land appropriation should be automatic upon taking over another empire's world. as for your slaves keep them and restructure those worlds as ones where you just have a lot of jobs for the slaves or move them to worlds where you can use them as slaves. or turn them into livestock if you don't mind being a xenophage.

Thanks for your reply.

Why should Land Appropriation be automatic? Isn't it bad to lose all those refugee pops? Would it be better to just resettle some of my main species pops to be rulers & not lose any conquered pops as refugees?

i meant that if it's on it happens automatically when you take worlds. i personally am not a fan of it, not because i lose the pops that flee but because it grabs pops from my worlds where i tend not to want to lose them. i like to manually move in my people so i don't get weird economy hits.
