Utopia is good

Utopia is proven to be good and available now, so i would go for that. But it mighg be a good idea to wait till the federation patch launches before starting a new game.

I'd say it depends on what you're interested in.

Utopia still has a lot of the interesting endgame content. All of the major Galactic Wonders for example, including Habitats and Ringworlds which are two of the major ways to expand your population capacity. Plus Hive Minds.

Federations has some of the interesting new Origins: Ringworld/Habitat/Relic World starts are all included (and don't require Utopia according to the dev diary, even though they're technically Utopia Content). Plus, more Federation types and the galactic senate to fill the midgame.

Overall, I'd say Federations is probably the one to get, unless you're a builder type and enjoy very long games.

Utopia is widely considered the most essential of the DLC. While obviously I can't judge Federations before seeing it, I'd be quite surprised if it ended up taking the crown from Utopia.

gonna end up getting utopia, and then go for federations, then either megacorp or apocalypse a bit later.

Sounds like a good plan

For what it's worth:

Utopia > Distant Stars / Ancient Relics > Apocalypse / Synthetic Dawn > Leviathans > MegaCorps would be my DLC suggestion.

i'd say, out of your listed choices, grab utopia and megacorp so you've got access to the megastructures. but wait until tuesday, the game and dlc(besides federations) should be going on sale along with federation's release.

I don't think it'll the crown, but I do think it's an addition that does some things well that Utopia doesn't.

Ringworld/Habitat/Relic World start all promise to feel VERY differently from the default setup, and Utopia really doesn't have anything that can compare to those. It has the Mechanist Civic (now also an Origin), and Hive Minds... but both of those don't alter the game in the same way starting with three Habitats or on a ring world does.

In the midgame, Utopia has the Ascension Paths, but that's about it. Federations comes with the Galactic Community, which is essentially an ongoing project that will always give you some decisions to make while you're playing. Might be the best thing ever added to Stellaris if the AI isn't too braindead about it.

In the lategame, that's where Utopia shines with its (near-mandatory) megastructures. Federations only offers the Juggernaut and the Mega Shipyard, both of which are rather niche.

Overall, both DLCs just compliment each other very well. Each excels in areas that the other one doesn't really cover.

With the AI's inability to play the game to any semblance of competence, I'd say 'don't get either'. Save you money and get a new game. Any game. As long as it's not a Paradox game.

The AI isn't great, but then again i haven't played a game in ages with a good AI. Of you are newto the game, you won't notice it.

1300 hrs in this game. So not a complete novice, to either this game or most other Paradox games. Paradox games generally have sub-par AI, but the latest crop (Hoi4, Stellaris) are particularly bad. Can't comment on Imperator b/c I don't have it.

Played most P'dox games since EU1. But their attitude toward player unhappiness has gotten quite bad in the last few years. Their willingness to admit when things simply aren't working has vanished to insignificance. In stellaris case, the AI simply doesn't know how to use a lot of the systems in the game.

That is the problem, the AI isn't good enough for everyone that puts alot of hours into the game. I am in the same boat as you. Same goes for games like Civ 6 or warhammer, they all have crappy AI for people that have spend alot of hours in these kind of games. To a new person, that really isn't a problem. They won't notice it.

I am just hoping the next update makes atleast the crisis AI better. So i can put multiple 5x crisis in my game and get a bit of a challenge.
