Barbaric Despoiler > This patch
Population changes? Who cares about pop growth rates when you can kidnap 40+ pops every war. The population rules don't do a damn thing to Barbaric Despoilers.

Clearly the devs thought these changes out and decided that Barbaric Despoilers deserve to be the best civic in the game. Clearly well thought out, just like every other sweeping change...

there is certainly a lot of balance issues with various builds.

I certainly hope you aren't suggesting the devs didn't foresee something? Madness!

Well the peaceful empire types definitely need a compensation for the complete lack of new pop acquiration later in the game.

For example, being in a federation and at peace should push the required number for pop completion down. Something dynamic like the "offensive war" modifier in CK3. Stay at peace, people are happy and can make babies at home. Go to war, people are sad and eat potato chips at the TV.

End the war and get baby boomers...

Barbaric Despoilers are peaceful, they just like to travel a lot and "invite" people to come home with them when the trip is over.

Well previous to this despoilers were utter garbage so its much of a muchness no?

Necrophage Purifiers also get some pretty significant advantages. Just select necrophage purge, and then resettle the pops to the planets you want to grow. I tried this and it was borderline broken, I was running decent population growth with 49 planets. Had to harvest half the galaxy, though, lmao

Slavers are also overpowered now should you want a peaceful way to acquire pops. Bad thing is that the slaver build becomes stronger if there are more slavers (and thus more slaves) on the market. As a result, you can have runs where you're the only slaver and thus it's garbage. Recently I've had slaver runs where I can straight up instantly fill an ecumenopolis with slaves and other runs where the market is drip-fed 1 slave per month.

Nihilistic Acquisition and Despoilers used to be one of the most garbage perks and archetypes but now the pop apocalypse has made them somewhat meta.

Robots used to be overpowered but are now one of the most garbage races due to assembly times that go to infinity & beyond (unless you choose assimilators which are now OP for the same reason despoilers are now OP)

Gene mods are a mixed bag now because you can totally stack on traits like fertile, buildings like the gene clinic and clone vats, and xeno-compatibility (yuck) to get somewhat bearable but still bad growth times. Performance depends on the hunger of the employment singularity.

Are you suggesting this isn't the devs intent? I believe that they felt the galaxy needs a kick in the ass and this is the form of kick they chose.

Another "Boo-hoo, they broke my meta" post.
Finding new metas IS fun. Once I find all metas that I like, I drop Stellaris until the next major overhaul.
Mortmal Apr 27, 2021 @ 3:41pm
Yes finding the meta is fun , but really crisis + barbaric despoiler or nihilitic , thats just pushing a I win button.

What do you mean, "win"? By the time I get the "win"; I haven't explored half the galaxy yet, so I'm definitely not done playing.

I mean that once you have those civic and that feat , nothing can stop you ever. Then you paint the map very fast, before the crisis even spawn.

Right. If that were my goal, I suppose I could.
