Multiplayer server not listed
Hi all,
does anybody know why when you create a server for a Stellaris multiplayer game this server does not appear in the list for other players to see?

Yesterday we created a shared game (both sitting in same apartment) and played - all fine. But the second person had to use the server number to access the game.

Today when we want to get back into the game, the second person cannot find the host in the list and the server number doesn't work either - no response from game...

But there are lots of servers listed - why do they appear?

It is all very strange (and terribly buggy!).

Hints / explanations would be appreciated,

NigelCGN

Check ur checksum. Mods can modifi it and then u cant see servers with anoter checksum

Thanks Kaiver, please tell me where I can read the checksum. I know what one is, but don't know where it is shown in Stellaris.

However we have no mods and we have not changed any configuration since we played yesterday.

I can start the game as host (no change from yesterday) and when my co-players logs on using the server number we get stuck on the loading screen. He can't log on with Steam invitation as his Steam account does not allow this.

Would load screen capture if I knew how...

I see that today that Stellaris was updated to version 3.0.3 with bug fixes. Is it possible this has broken multiplayer games?

Ever grateful for any further help.

When you launch stellaris at the bottom left (usually) it'll have in ()'s 4 digits, that is your checksum.

I guess this is the problem. U can change this in «Privacy settings», If you want of course.
Look instruction: Steam Profile Privacy
And the discussion: Full private profile can't invite friends

U can upload screenshot via Steam and post a direct link on it (no any format tags needed).
Or u can use a program like Joxy[joxi.ru] (or similar) to get a links to the screenshot. For example http://joxi.ru/4AkKndDTkxdvJA

OK, I checked the checksum - it is the same as I expected.

We always get as far as the small "Connecting" window after the second player logs on with the server-ID (long number) and the password. But the server never gets found. Sometimes, after many minutes, we get a message saying check the firewall (already done of course... all aspects checked - this is not new for me). It seems that Steam simply does not know the server I set up - either the name or the ID number given when we first played the game.

Does anybody else have this frustrating experience? We really want to play, but if this cannot be resolved that will be the end for Stellaris for us.

Paradox does all these LAN parties and stuff... why can't multiplayer be easy for dummies?

Bit frustrated... so any further constructive comments welcome.

OK, Problem resolved - but NO thanks to Steam who really need to explain things better for users.

As many people write, as a co-player, you need to go directly to the loaded game using the server ID. What NOBODY writes is that the server ID for a game CHANGES every time you reload it. So using the original ID (from e.g. the first playing session) doesn't work: the process stops at the "Connecting" window... the ID is no-longer valid. MEGA frustrating.

SOLUTION: The host needs to load the game and then IN THE GAME hover over the pause button, top right, to collect the NEW server ID. Stupidly this is not copy-able digitally. The host has to write it down on paper and then pass it to the co-player(s), physically or type it back in digitally ... rather 20th century Steam :-( Then the other player(s) can join the game.

However, I still don't know why our "server name" does not appear in the list. Steam says the list shows servers close to you. Hm. We are both logged into the same Steam node as we are physically using the same connection from our apartment. But hey, the work around works, so be grateful for small victories.

I am sincerely glad that you managed to figure it out ))
That the server ID changes every reload.
