L Gate Question
Is there any way to tell which L Gate outcome you'll get
Currently my crisis is set to Prethoryn, have anything to do with it?
I'm on Ironman and don't want to get hammered by the nanite fleets
Guess I could semi save scum it but Id have to time it just right

Nope, not until you or the AI opens it.

The only ways to check would involve the console (which is disabled for Ironman), or by peeking in the save file. Otherwise, someone's got to open up Pandora's Box.
The contents of the L-Cluster are determined at game start. There's no save-scum 'reroll' possible.

If it helps:

Nanite fleets come out at 30K and are made of one battleship size and 4-5 cruiser size ships. Usually the first time the gate opens you got invaded by 2 fleets; with a few other ones after that.

If you got the research for it - and by the time you are able to open up the L-gate you should have it - expand your outpost to the highest available tier, build defence stations of which at least 30% has PD at it and whenever possible the "Defence Grid Supercomputer" as that would add another 8 defence stations.
Even at Star Fortress capacity you'd have 20 defence stations (DGS add's 8 on top of the 3 you get for each tier of the base which are 12 stations at Fortress) and you should be able to have around 40K+ power from it.
My usual setup is having an equal amount of defence stations set for long, medium and short range making it easier for me to harrass the AI at all distances.
For buildings I add the Target Uplink Computer, Communcations Jammer and Disruption Field Generator; to make sure they won't get away easily, have less shield capacity and are hit as far away from my station as possible.

Add 1-2 of your fleets in that system; which by then should be around 60K+ power and you're able to easily beat back the nanites.
After that invade the cluster using your fleets, defeat the Nanite fleets in the first system, send one fleet back for repairs, return it to the first L-system, repair the other one, invade two L-gate systems to defeat the fleets there, send in a science ship to survey that first system, as soon as that's done, build an outpost and repeat that for the next systems.

When you play it like that you're able to defeat the Nanites; as they eventually are all from one system. And the only thing to be done is blocking off access to that system to make sure you won't be invaded, while mopping up the rest, gaining control of it and then invade their home system with your two fleets to whipe them out completely.

Yes, the outcome is a disappointment. The main use of the L-cluster is a free invasion route to the entire galaxy. Lots of risk for at best little benefits.

I must have bad luck cause I have never got Gray Tempest event or any enemy forces over there... Over 450 hours and plenty of times L-Clusters were opened by myself and AI. And nothing over there except one Neutral Dragon...

I wish this game has some configuration to events, cause I never has Prethoryn or Nanite events. Even while I everytime set them. (Never moded game. Fully vanilla with all DLCs except Nemesis...)

You can edit the save file if not ironman and put whatever lgate event in the lgate you want.
Strange that the devs put in a chooser in the game setup for end game crisis but not for mid game or lgate.
Same deal, should have had a chooser and a tick box to randomize it if you desired.

Here is how to edit the lgate event:

Honestly I have only once a mid game crisis with Great Khan returning. And that's it... Not sure if missing one DLC broke up my game (HoI IV has many problems if you missing something), but lack of events from mid and end game in my gameplays is very frustrating. I have 97 achivements and realy wish to collect them all and almost all events not happening is very dissapointing...

The Outcome is generated at the Start of your Game.
The only way to change it is to go into your savegame files that is in %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Paradox Interactive
and use WinRar to open the Savefile (Make a copy of it beforehand in case something goes south)
Ctrl + F - then type Gray and go untill you find the "gray_goo_crisis_set"
You can either:

1. Delete that line - to get Gray
2. get the Empire by replacing that line with "gray_goo_empire_set=62808000
3. get the Dragons by replacing that line with "dragon_season=62808000

One way I got myself out of the trouble as I got to open the gate within the first 30 years and didn't want everything to go south (as the galactic assembly was formed 1 year prior)

I didn't mean reroll. I mean close the game manually from windows before it saves for the month, have to time it just right lol

Let me tell you again as you ignored my statement - Whatever happens is Preset - when you create your Run it will roll 1 of 4 events. If it's set to Tempest you have to manually change it the way I told in my post before. You cannot savescum in Stellaris.

Savescum meaning don't let it save if it's the outcome I don't want at the time, and I didn't ignore you
And yes you can savescum for very many things actually

Not for the L gates. The Outcome is PRE - SET at year 2200 - 0 seconds into the game.

The problem is the second you hit the start button the result of that event has already been decided, so there is nothing to save scum.

Exactly what I tried to get at but I guess I failed at that.
