I might be wrong but as far as i knoe there is no official way to know your current difficulty, but if you start new game you will see your last game setting including the diffficulty you choose on previous game.

what wolkenwand said, the game keeps the last used settings, so unless you are unsure about an old game and have changed em in between, just start a new game and check the difficulty in the options.
Also it keeps the settings for solo- and multiplayer seperately.

Ohh i checked its grand admiral, however im confused as my neighboring empires has only 2-3k fleets when i have 5k they are bigger than me but they kind of spend a lot in starbases where their starbases are stronger than their fleets is this a bug or they messed up the AI again?

To answer the question you can just load your save, quit and try to start a new game and all settings from your game (including the difficult)y will appear as the default for the new game.

Also if unmodded the AI randomly picks its technology all the time, no amount of extra bonuses will do anything to change that and if it appears weak then it's either because you have scaling turned on or you don't see the rest of its fleets (unless you're at war with them).

did you turnn scaling difficulty on? this setting will make AI get 0 bonus regardelss of difficulty until year 2300 where they get 50% of intended bonus and 100% when the year 2400.

Good to know!

How does that affect Advanced Start then?
