Yeah, then you end up with a planet full of spiritual fanatic xephobes in your individualist materialistic empire, and the average happiness on that planet never goes over 30, making you lose tons of resources over the rest of the game. Use at your own risks.

That is a mod, since when a scientist decreases cost... of a colony... ship?

after a long time I finally managed to research this tech, quite rare for me..

But I still confused.. what does Private Colony Ship do? at what cost?

Why would the average happiness on the planet stay below 30? Fanatic individualists get -60% on unhappiness penalties so instead of -30% it's only-12%, generally get another +5% or +10% from government, have a +15% happiness building, could have another +5% from communual, and more. A basic individualist empire might need to be cautious with private colony ships, but if you go fanatic you can really ignore ethics deviation.

@Exarch_Alpha there are several techs that decrease colony ship cost in the 1.3 patch, and I'm pretty sure they also affect private colony ships.

From what I understand it's a less expensive colony ship with the drawback of *potentially* random ethics for the settling pops.

That was hyperbole. Basically a way to tell him there is a drawback and to be careful.

Concerning the -35%, the scientist must have been elected at the head of the state and have the trait that reduces colony ships costs.

@Zeratul The colony ship doesn't cost any minerals to make, just energy. Typically you end up at several points where you have an excess of energy and are pretty much always wanting more minerals, so it's a nice savings. The main drawback is that since RP-wise the ship is privately built by groups with their own agenda, you can't control what the ethos of the colonists is, so they can (and often are) value ethos you don't really like. Other than the different cost and inability to control ethics, they work like regular colony ships. Like I said above, they're kind of risky for a basic individualist empire, but fanatic individualists don't mind the diversity.

If you have spiritualist combined with individualist, you shouldn't care either.

Yeah, who cares. With recent changes to individualist i can finally forget about about that pesky ethic divergence that bothered me before. Sure, when some pops will transition to xenophobic spirutualistic as-sholes i will loose some income, but at least they wont burn my buildings down. I recently built a private colony a ship however, and for some odd reason there was robot in it -__- ALso, how did you know that i play as fanatical individualist+materialist?

Well, you have to have individualist to get private colony ships, so that's a start on the guess :)
