Space exploration game without politics
Hi,
I just purchased Stellaris and am very disappointed. Its way to complicated and involved with politics etc. Eve online is just as bad. What I am looking for is a simple game where I can explore star systems and harvest resources, possibly encounter strange dangerous creatures and have to defend my workers. Hope that makes sense. I am on the Mac platform. Any recommendations? Thank you.

So in other words you want a 4X game with only one X in it? and I don't know what you mean about involved with politics because it's bland and boring at least without any mods.

How about other games like No Man's Sky or The Outer Worlds?

Something like "Spore" should fit you more i think.

Yea, you're not looking for a strategy game then. Maybe No Man's Sky as Sack said, or Elite: Dangerous. Rimworld possibly too.

The store page makes some... far-fetched claims. That said, it does a lot of what you want.

Sounds like you want an action game not a strategy game.

Yea lots of politics in stellaris, it is about getting resource but to put that resource to use via dispatching enemy nations.

The old but still great game Sword of the Stars has little politics except non aggression, war, peace and alliances. very basic stuff. Graphics are old. game is cheap but game and story are still great and you will see some elements of the races from it in Stellaris too.

there is an older game called sword of the stars. Its 4x with real time space combat. It's cheap on GoG and I play that when I just want to kill and invade

You can play as devouring swarm. Explore the universe, meet strange creatures and eat them all if you can. No politics. Requires a DLC (I forgot which).

There's also No Man's Sky which is on your two feet exploration and base building but no workers.

If you just want to explore, I recommend Elite: Dangerous. It's a very different game, you have to navigate space with your shuttle/spaceship, but it's really good for explorers, particularly if you don't play in multiplayer mode, reducing the amount of hostile encounters.

How about Avorion. You can build your own Ships, Drones and Starbases. Or download designs on the Steam Workshop. You can give your Drones orders like ressource harvesting or follow you ect. They collect ore for you while you can explore new sectors and fight pirates or whatever you want to do.

But no idea if it works on mac

When you start a game, you can choose how many AI empires you want to spawn. You can set it to 0.

Stellaris isn't a space exploration game, it is a 4x trying desperately to be grand strategy, so this one is definitely NOT for you.

That can quickly become a boring game unless you like the pure exploration and build aspects.
If you are going to do this, make sure you set the sliders for maximum pre sapients and consider adding in the two Fatherland mods, which will automatically send out "private autonomous" settlers to new worlds outside your empire that you can interact with later in the game.

That's what OP is looking for, pure exploration and resource gathering.
