How dangerous is researching jumpdrives?
So, I got positronic AI(hacked the infinity sphere) and the self-aware ships and nothing bad happened. I assume its because Im a Hive Mind and cant get robots, but whatever. One of the common techs im getting to research is the Jump Drives, and I'm too spooked to research it. Also, won't the knowledge keepers or whatever demand I stop then if I dont they DOW me?

Any insight would be nice....

In my last game the keeper of knowledge not demanding me to stop for researching dangerous tech, maybe its random?

The dangerous stuff doesn't happen right away. Researching the dangerous techs leads to the possible end-game crisis (default ~2450).

not so the end game thing it's week at the start so keep a big fleet for killing the early start

Even if you don't research the dangerous tech the AI empires will and they can trigger an endgame crisis on their own.

For me there is no danger at all, so far in all my +500 hours of Stellaris I have never gotten the crisis tied with jumpdrives.. and I research them pretty much every game, sometimes really early since I often rush zero point power.

Its all about what RNGesus decides to do.

I too like to live dangerously.

So, what exactly do they do now? I dont notice any difference than before, unless it just gives some passive speed boost to ships or something.

They allow you to jump to one end of the galaxy to the other with the unintended side effect of grabbing the attention of soul-eating eldritch abombinations.

So does each jump have a chance of spawning them? Or just the initial researching?

I belive its completing the research project, but then again it all comes down to RNG whether or not they spawn. All it really does is increase the chances of them actually spawning.

It's not a chance of spawning, it's about the end-game crisis. Completing "dangerous" research options and going through with utilizing them influences the percentages of what crisis you will receive. Jump drive tech makes the Unbidden more likely. Ai makes the contengency more likely. The Prethoryn Swarm is the alternative. And AI empires will affect the draw anyway, so worrying about it on your end isn't really important. One of them WILL spawn regardless around 250 years into the game by default. The only thing abstaining from dangerous tech does is slightly adjust the odds.

Depends on how early you research them.

Ahh ok, cause I got Positronic AI about 30 years into the game from The Sphere, and researched Jump Drives around 2300-ish. BTW I have tech and traditions set to 25% cost, as I like to get the fun stuff quick.
