Relics incredibly sparse?
Is it just me or have relics entirely disappeared? This is my 3rd game (in a long time) and I haven't seen one by the time I finish a run.

Most precursor event trees will come with a relic. If you really have to have one, you can always reload the map until you get a precursor that comes with a relic.

Otherwise, you are probably just be moving to slow to capture any relics before other factions get to them, as a lot of them are locked behind anomalies, dig sites, and leviathans.

Finally, yes, they are relatively rare. Even if you are quick to cover the map, the chances of finding one is not that great. I average about 3 relics per game, with the least being 2, and the most being 6. So maybe you are just getting RNG screwed out of relics.

Probably a combination of A and B.
No, relics are still in the game. It is possible to not find any of them in any specific game, though. Or, you might find several. Many of them are associated with archaeology sites, so if you don't do much excavation then that will increase the chance that you don't encounter one.

And most of them are bad, unfortunately.

No kidding. I would opt for Cybrex ring world or First League relic world over an actual relic any day, but some of the relics are still pretty useful for certain plays, like the Baol Relic for players doing the Gaia home world.

Hmm...sounds like they hid the relics behind a paywall with the archaeology DLC.

When I played a lot three years ago I'd usually average three relics a game.

I love that there's nine slots. Who the hell has EVER gotten nine relics in one run? lol

Most of the relics require a DLC to unlock, but they aren't all unlocked by the Ancient Relics DLC. The crisis relics don't require any DLCs. Naturally, most of them are unlocked by Ancient Relics because that is the DLC that introduced the concept of Relics.

I only have six slots. If you have nine then that might be due to a mod. That could also explain why you are finding less of them (perhaps your mod(s) are bugged, or made intentional changes to how relics are acquired).

The AI empires CAN and WILL get relics if given the chance.
You have a 10% (15% with barbaric despoilers) to capture a relic when taking a capital planet.

Interesting. No mods, straight vanilla. Maybe I miscounted. Could've sworn I had nine slots.

ah well - but yeah I used to get at LEAST two relics per run. The past three runs, none. The Worm event used to be a constant as well. EVERY run had The Worm. Updates and patches and whatnot, I imagine.

slots
you can scroll down if you get more relics, mod or not;it's not limited by some inventory size

Oh. Well that's why I thought it was six max. I've never had more than five, so there was nothing to scroll down to reveal.

On average I seem to only get two per game. It definitely feels like they used to be more common but that's probably cognitive bias on my part.

I either get one or I get a ridiculous number of them. I never get any useful to the playstyle I'm trying to do though and there's some that I've legitimately never had.

The developers redid some relics to make them apply to everyone. I agree though. It seems like every time I played a spiritualist empire, I'd get the cybrex war forge and its old + robot pop growth speed. At least now it gives alloys and a (heretical) army unit.

Basically getting relics is a race. If you're slow to survey and claim excavation sites, you're not going to get very many. It also sounds like you don't actively pursue galactic threats, which is another fine source of relics.

I wonder if there are any people who try to steal relics from others with Barbaric Despoilers? :\

Excavations are sparse in my runs. I've only seen a few across four games now, and the two that I've done yielded nothing - are they tied in to the DLC which I have not purchased? Like, the frequency occurring?

The galactic threats...I go after what I can. There used to be so many more. I remember the Ether Drake, Dimensional Horror, Leviathan, etc. They're either not dropping anything or I'm doing it wrong lol.

I read up on some things such as the Khan only dropping his relic upon defeating his fleet a second time. Perhaps I messed up the sequence by eliminating all of their territories prior to their return...dunno.
