Are Gene Clinics worth it?
Been trying to work out if they are worth a building slot, but finding them difficult to assess. What do you all think?

I always build them first on new colonies if I can afford the consumer goods, but with this new update they don't seem to be as useful as before.

Usually when they come up I hear a consensus that they're a waste, based on math that I can't repeat off the top of my head.

Personally I build them anyway because, well, I like them.

I usually build them when I'm not going for biological ascendency, as it helps the population increase a little bit and provides some society research and amenities.

Doesn't add society research.

But it does add amenties and a bit of habitability ^^

Actually the medical workers give amenities, habitability, pop growth speed AND organic pop assembly speed. So you definitely want them with bio ascension.

What they don't give is society research.

The math behind it roughly boils down to:
The boost the clinic gives your pop growth takes almost the entire game to break even with the pop you need to even run the clinic.

Glad it hasn't popped for research up in my current 12 year playthrough. I would have grabbed it immediately.

first, i build a gene clinic, then a robot assembly so i can have more pops

You only get them for all the bonuses together as none of the things alone are ever worth it, especially the pop growth which is so little it's basically worthless.

Did the math account for the value of the increased habitability it provides?

In that calculation it's pretty much worthless since you can get enough habitability through research.
I think it's very hard to calculate the overall value of it since it provides so many different small bonuses. All together would probably be worth something but more often than not you don't want or even need all of them.

One medical worker provides: +5 Amenities, +5% Pop Growth Speed, +5% Organic Pop Assembly Speed and +2.5% Habitability.

You get 2 workers in the building and another 2 in the upgraded version.
But that cost one 1 gas

All of that you want on a new colony, the amenities are also boosted by charismatic pops.

hi ive always built gene clinics on my planets, usually i build anything i need the most first (like if i have an energy shortage i will try to deal with that first) but then i always build these to help pop growth...

i have always found them very useful (in v2.x games) havent tried 3 yet, but dont forget that you can always build them early on to get the benefits, and can always replace them later if needs be ;)

I have never really even thought about it. It always just seemed like the right thing to do.

I know that in my 3.x games my pops seems to be happier with them (from the anemities I assume). Even if it is less efficient pop wise, that alone might make it worth it. I am going to start paying closer attention to them, though.

Pops = power. More pop growth rate = more power faster.
