Personally I build them anyway because, well, I like them.
Doesn't add society research.
But it does add amenties and a bit of habitability ^^
Actually the medical workers give amenities, habitability, pop growth speed AND organic pop assembly speed. So you definitely want them with bio ascension.
What they don't give is society research.
The boost the clinic gives your pop growth takes almost the entire game to break even with the pop you need to even run the clinic.
Did the math account for the value of the increased habitability it provides?
I think it's very hard to calculate the overall value of it since it provides so many different small bonuses. All together would probably be worth something but more often than not you don't want or even need all of them.
You get 2 workers in the building and another 2 in the upgraded version.
But that cost one 1 gas
All of that you want on a new colony, the amenities are also boosted by charismatic pops.
i have always found them very useful (in v2.x games) havent tried 3 yet, but dont forget that you can always build them early on to get the benefits, and can always replace them later if needs be ;)
I know that in my 3.x games my pops seems to be happier with them (from the anemities I assume). Even if it is less efficient pop wise, that alone might make it worth it. I am going to start paying closer attention to them, though.
